Image and video hosting by TinyPicWe hope you remember former native son Jim McCaffrey who for years covered our lives and our news up and down the Main Line and in Philadelphia via Main Line Times, Wayne & Suburban, Main Line Life and The Bulletin.

He helped give our local world and issues a voice and now he is facing a health crisis of some enormity and it is very serious. He has been diagnosed with MDS or Myelodysplastic syndrome.

MDS is a malignant disorder of the bone marrow. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), approximately 18,000 people develop MDS each year. MDS can affect all of the cells in our blood. MDS used to be called preleukemia due to the progression that is sometimes seen from MDS to leukemia.

It was a bit foggy last night, and I couldn't sleep last night. So I did the only sensible thing. I wandered around town and took pictures.

From Patch:

http://ardmore.patch.com/articles/wynnewood-s-buca-di-beppo-now-closed

The space used to be a movie theater.  Then it turned into a Vinnie Testa's.  Then that became Vinnie T's of Boston.   Which closed suddenly without notice, even to its employees.  Now it appears that Bucca di Beppo has performed the same maneuvre.   It seemed to be doing fine, the parking lot was always crowded up there.

Federal Realty wants to put a restaurant at the other Wynnewood shopping center, next to the Wynnewood Post office.   They aren't saying who their projected tenant will be.   I wonder if Bucca di Beppo will reemerge?

Knights who say... NI! Knights who say... NI! Knights who say... NI!

Were You Approached in Suburban Square About a Fake on The Spot Car Repair? If so, contact Tracy Davidson at NBC10 - you can message her thru her public Facebook page, tweet at her @tracydavidson10, or call the station. (610 668 5510 / 5750 )

Apparently this past Saturday Lower Merion Police made a bunch of citations? People say there were a few cop cars doing this?

Anyway, NBC10 is looking to speak to victims or potential victims.

"We'll throw in this cat for free!"

I got this note from the township today:

The Lower Merion Affordable Housing Corporation, in cooperation with Lower Merion Township, is accepting applications for the affordable first-time homebuyers program.

The Affordable Home Ownership Program's next home will be an end-unit townhome, located at 1048 Floyd Terrace in Bryn Mawr, Lower Merion Township. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 ½ baths, a front porch and off-street parking. Special preference will be given to people who currently live or work in Lower Merion, former residents and active Lower Merion volunteer firefighters. The asking price is $190,000.

Homebuyers must meet eligibility requirements including income restrictions, good credit and savings for the down-payment. Household income restrictions are based on U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income limits adjusted for household size.

Households with two members could have a maximum income of $50,700. Households with three members could have a maximum income of $57,050. Households with four members could have a maximum income of $63,350. (All thresholds have been lowered since the beginning of 2013.) Homebuyers must comply with program requirements and agree to resale restrictions.

Please contact Genesis Housing Corporation at 610-275-4357 to receive an application. Applications can also be downloaded at the Township website.

This project has been funded through HUD's Community Development Block Grant Program. For questions, contact Genesis at the number above Lower Merion Township's Community Development Division at (610) 645-6271.

Bonus points for giving preference to volunteer fire fighters. I have no issues with this whatsoever.

Patch tells us:  Cold Stone Creamery left Suburban Square December 24.  It will allegedly be replaced by a frozen yogurt place.

Interesting comment on the Patch article:

I wish the new place luck - with the super high rent and never any parking its an uphill battle to survive at Suburban
