Lisa Paolino in trouble for Deceiving Voters!

This just hit the news over on Haverfordblog. Not only was Lisa Paolino found guilty in court for producing phony ballots, but she has refused to turn over documentation related to ballots which may have been previously distributed.

This is big big news, for two reasons:

Is Lisa Paolino buying votes?

Lance Rogers is very unhappy with Lisa Paolino. It seems that she has been putting campaign advertisements together with coupons for a car wash. Apparently this is illegal under Pennsylvania Law as outlined in the below press release from Lance Rogers' office.

Lisa Paolino's Legal Letter

Since folks have been asking me both online and off about the legal letter that Lisa Paolino sent me, I have reproduced it below. But first, I'm going to give some background.

Awhile back, a blog post was made by one of our members on this site, titled "Radnor Commissioner Involved in Grade Fixing?", which discussed a grade changing scandal that involved Lisa Paolino, who was a sitting Commissioner in Radnor at the time. The blog post itself really didn't make any accusations, but did cite a source in the way of a newspaper article from the Philadelphia Inquirer. (Original no longer available, reprint here)

What the blog post did do, however, was ask a lot of questions. Apparently Lisa Paolino doesn't like it when people ask questions about her. Instead, I received the following letter from her attorney sometime later. (additional comments follow the letter):

Dear Mr. Muth:

I represent Lisa Paolino who is referenced in a blog which was published at your website today. The contributor to the blog was "RadnorRabbit" and the clear implication of the blog was to the effect that my client had engaged in criminal conduct similar to the conduct of an individual (Mr. Moran) who was recently indicted by a state grand jury for political corruption.

In the view of the undersigned, the blog contribution of RadnorRabbit implied criminality on the part of my client, when, in fact, my client did nothing more than notify the Radnor School District that her daughter was ill, documented the illness and then asked that the District permit a "pass" grade in lieu of a "D" as the final grade for the Ms. Paolino's daughter's "wellness" class.

As you can see, the comparison between my client's conduct and the events which relate to Mr. Moran are not at all analogous, especially under circumstances where the School District and its independent counsel have evaluated the matter involving Ms. Paolino and have determined that the grade change was entirely appropriate. Moreover, no one, with the exception of RadnorRabbit, has even suggested wrongdoing on Ms. Paolino's part, much less conduct which would implicate the criminal law.

As you know, the blog which was published on your website is subject to republication and further comment. Under circumstances where the reputation of Ms. Paolino has already been damaged, with malice, I write with two requests: first, I ask for the identity of RadnorRabbit; second, I ask that you pull the blog from your website so that the republication/comment concern is abated.

Thank you for your consideration.

Very truly yours,

My brain pretty much went into shock after reading that. What we have here is an ELECTED OFFICIAL who is trying to shut up her critics by sending legal letters to the webmaster of the site it was on. Unbelievable! Can you possiblly get any more anti-democratic than that? I don't know what things are like where Lisa comes from, but here in the United States, we have this tiny piece of text known as the First Amendment. It explicitly gives us the right to criticize others and call them on their actions. This even extends to our elected officials. In fact, I think that having the ability to complain about one's leaders is the hallmark of a free and open society.

What is even more ironic is that Lisa has this same Freedom of Speech that the rest of us do. If she wanted to dispute the blog posting, she could have easily written her own blog post that tells her own version of events. Heck, if she had asked nicely, I would have even linked to the post from this site in the interest of fairness. Having both sides of the story would allow readers to view both and make their own informed decision. I support the free exchange of information and ideas and think that would have been great if she would have just posted her side of the story.

Instead, Lisa chose to resort to this disgusting bullying tactic and had the audacity to think that she could actually get me to remove an entire member's blog removed because she disapproved of a single posting. Well, guess what? I will not be bullied.

Finally, this letter raises some other interesting questions: has Lisa Paolino attempted to bully any other individuals or civic groups that have spoken poorly of her? Has she forced other blogs off the air through such tactics? These are things that we at the Save Ardmore Coalition would like to know. If you have any information about this, please contact us.

Finally, I would like to end this post with a few relevant quotes about censorship and the Freedom of Speech:

The test of democracy is freedom of criticism. ~David Ben-Gurion

If you don't have this freedom of the press, then all these little fellows are weaseling around and doing their monkey business and they never get caught. ~Harold R. Medina

Books won't stay banned. They won't burn. Ideas won't go to jail. In the long run of history, the censor and the inquisitor have always lost. The only weapon against bad ideas is better ideas. ~Alfred Whitney Griswold, New York Times, 24 February 1959

Thank you for reading, and good night.

Residental Fire at 100 W Montgomery Ave

Tonight sure was exciting. On my way back from dinner at around 6 PM, I stumbled across the scene of what appeared to be a residential fire on Montgomery Avenue. From speaking to the owner of the affected home, it seems to have stemmed from an issue with his fireplace.

Montgomery Avenue was completely closed off between Woodside Ave. and Bleddyn Road:

And if you think that firefighters rescuing kitty cats is some sort of stereotype, I wouldn't be so sure:

I'd also like to extend my thanks to the residents of 34 W Montgomery Ave, who provided temporary shelter the residents of 100 W, who were all evacuated due to the fire.

Anderson Ave Bridge: 1, Budget Truck: 0

The bridge on Anderson Ave in Ardmore strikes again! I wish I would say that this is the first time I saw a truck get stuck in this particular bridge, but... it's not.

See that sign on the bridge? The one that says, "CLEARANCE 10'6""? They mean it. Especially when you're driving a 10'8" Budget truck!

Let this be a learning experience:

Lower Merion must protect its neighborhoods

By Sharon Eckstein, President, Save Ardmore Coalition

The Save Ardmore Coalition's mission statement asserts that our grassroots organization is dedicated to the revitalization of Ardmore's business district based on community input, consensus building, sound and comprehensive planning and the preservation of our architectural heritage. Accordingly, we support the swift enactment of a comprehensive plan for Lower Merion Township, a full town plan for Ardmore, and an updated Municipal Planning Code for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Save Ardmore Coalition ( SAC) appreciates the outreach from SW Land Associates, developers of 130 Cricket Ave. and values the ongoing dialogue that we have been having with them. Nevertheless, SAC is opposed to the proposed development of 130 Cricket Ave. as it is currently being discussed.

SAC supports the creation of and maintaining of truly affordable housing in Ardmore. We realize that without housing diversity a community loses its vitality. A community is most vibrant when it has housing opportunities for people at different stages of life and with different socioeconomic backgrounds, when those of different means can call one neighborhood their own.

Developer incentives to create affordable housing generally allow developers to build more units than the zoning ordinances allow. As a "reward" for promoting the societal good of affordable housing, they are permitted to increase the project's density. The proposed development of 130 Cricket Ave. involves the building of one condominium building with approximately 37 units rather than the straight, recently re-examined R6A zoning maximum of approximately 12-15 units because the developers are including approximately 18 units of "subsidized units" -- primarily one-bedroom units selling for $320,000, as we have been told. In Ardmore, for that amount of money, we assert that those who would truly need this housing would be looking for a single family home or even a townhouse, not a one bedroom condominium apartment.

Have you seen this cat?

Below is a letter from the owners, who are searching for him:

Dear Community,

Our cat Twinkle Toes has been missing since last Wednesday, June 6th.
He’s been seen last time on Booth Lane, near the condo complex.
He loves to hunt mice and could get trapped in somebody’s basement or garage.
He carries a white anti-flee collar and has a white tip on the tail.
If anybody has seen him or has any kind of information about him, please contact us ASAP.

Thank you very much for all your help,

Sincerely,

Oleg & Alla Boychenko

Susan Tepper accused of assaulting *another* nanny

Susan Tepper is in trouble again. As we wrote back in February, Tepper was accused of assaulting a nanny. She was sentenced to one year of probation plus $2,800 in fines and ordered into anger management classes.

Yet, barely three months into her probation, police were called to her Villanova estate Sunday evening. She was accused of getting in an altercation with another nanny, leaving the nanny with scratches on her face as well as bruises. She then allegedly swore at the nanny's 9 year old daughter and shoved her to the ground.

Yep, nothing says "maturity" and "self control" like shoving around children.

Main Line Socialite Charged With Assaulting Another Nanny

by KYW's Brad Segall

A Main Line socialite, already on probation for attacking her nanny last year at this time, has been arrested again on charges she assaulted another nanny over the weekend.

Lower Merion police in Pennsylvania were called to Susan Tabas Tepper’s (above) Villanova estate late Sunday night for a report of an assault. Sergeant John Stillwagon says the nanny told them she was trying to leave the house with her nine-year-old daughter when Tepper became increasingly angry:

"Mrs. Tepper got into an argument with her and tried to forcibly take the keys from her. That’s when the struggle ensued and during the struggle, she scratched her on the face and caused a couple bruises on her body."

Court papers reveal Tepper then swore at the little girl and shoved her to the ground.

Tepper is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment. The nanny was treated and released.

Trial Starts for Suspect in Ardmore Murder

We're glad to see that this awful crime has finally made it to trial.

At this point, it's up to the legal system to determine if he is guilty or not. The prosecutors are not making this into a death penalty case, but a guilty verdict would send the defendant off to jail for life.
