254 Righter's Mill Road before the BOC TONIGHT!
Submitted by doran249 on Wed, 2007-09-19 14:20.|
Once again the issue of the development of 254 Righter's Mill Road will be before the township...this time at tonight's BOC meeting. Following the B&P meeting, the neighbors and developer were asked to meet and try to work out a compromise. This wasn't very successful. Our neighborhood met a few times to work out development options we could live with that were compliant with Sec. of the Interiors Standards and township code. Two of our reps met with the Gervertz contingent to convey our thoughts...from what we gather since we were not present, they were not very receptive. |
254 Righters Mill Road Before Building & Planning TONIGHT!!
Submitted by doran249 on Wed, 2007-07-25 10:25.|
The development proposed for 254 Righters Mill Rd. (a lovely victorian that will be muddled with 2 townhouses and 3 two car garages tacked on the back) will be before the commissioners meeting tonight. It's really important that we can get as many people as possible to attend. This developer needs to be awarded a "Certificate of Appropriateness" for a completely innappropriate 14,000 sq.ft. building to be dropped in the middle of a neighborhood of 2,000 +/- modest homes... right in the middle of the Gladwyne HISTORIC DISTRICT! |
254 Righters Mill Road goes before HARB tomorrow

Just a quick note to let those interested in this development within the Gladwyne Historic District will be before HARB tomorrow, Tues, June 26th at 8am. We just received our meeting agenda today so we're sorry for the late notice. This development of 2 large townhouses and 3 two-car garages attached to a big old victorian was given the okay by the zoning hearing board who decided to ignore the fact that these are in fact townhouses, not apartments. In this case even though it walks like a duck, etc, etc, it's an apartment. |
254 Righter's Mill Road Update
Submitted by doran249 on Thu, 2007-03-29 13:21.|
Just wanted to update interested parties on the development plans of 254 Righter's Mill Road, in the historic district of Gladwyne. This is a lovely old Victorian in need of a great deal of TLC. The new owner, self-proclaimed development "hobbiest," Gary Gervertz had planned to attach 2 townhouses and 3 two-car garages to the main home. The small in-law cottage in the back would be replaced with a new mcmansion. |
Just returned from the HARB meeting

Just returned from the HARB meeting regarding 254 Righters Mill Road. The purpose of this meeting was to specify which part of the property is historically significant within its own context. This means as a "Victorian" everything not Victorian is not significant. So if there are additions to the property that were built in 1910, even though this addition may older than some houses in the district even a couple of doors down ... this addition is not significant. |
254 Righters Mill Rd. & HARB
Submitted by doran249 on Mon, 2007-01-29 16:22.|
The proposed development of 254 Righters Mill Rd., Gladwyne will be heard by the HARB on FEB 6 at 8 AM. The developer has submitted a Historic Resources Impact Study to HARB, dated January 2007, that was prepared by Mr. George E. Thomas Ph.D. In part the report refers to the applicant's need for the income that would be generated by the construction of the three new rear houses to restore the front house. Is this what they call a self-inflicted economic hardship? The HARB will have to sift through the report to determine the impact of any alteration of this Class 1 property on the Gladwyne Historic District. This meeting will be well attended by the neighbors, please join us. |
Gladwyne Development goes before HARB

The proposed development and demolition of 254 Righters Mill Rd., Gladwyne will be reviewed by the HARB at 8 a.m. on Tuesday Dec. 5, 2006, at the Township Building. This house is an 1880 Class 1 resource, and as such deserves to be watched very closely lest another Lower Merion historic asset meets the wrecking ball. This will be a precedent setting descision for the future of Lower Merion Historic Districts and Historic Resources. This is a classic profit vs. preservation bout that you won't want to miss and it will test the metal of this Township. |
Neighbors fear development in Gladwyne Historic District
Submitted by doran249 on Tue, 2006-10-31 17:10.|
The Merion Square (Gladwyne) Historic District is being threatened by a developer who wants to build three new full size houses in his back yard at 254 Righters Mill Rd. Or he wants to tear down his Class 1 Victorian house and build five new ones on a new road through the property. To do this he needs to woo the Zoning Hearing Board into granting special relief. Will he succeed or will the neighbors plea halt the ravages of demolition and McBuilding? Come and see for yourself, at the Township Building, November 9th, and 7:15 pm. Hey look at the bright side, maybe we all will be able to build one or two in our own back yards. |
