Learning all About Our Main Line Neighbor Kimco

I heard last night from a friend that in November there will be a public hearing after all on whether or not Kimco will be allowed to re-zone the Ruby's Lot, also known as the "West Lot" - see LMT PDF on the topic.

So anyway, friends in NYC perceive Kimco as a big goliath in areas like Harlem and Brooklyn...something about that dratted Ratner plan and a historic stretch of Harlem?

I thought it might be helpful to surf the web and learn about our neighbors. Here is what is publicly available to read - I am sure it's not everything, but it is a start:

Off Campus Student Housing

In Lower Merion Township, student housing ordinance was amended earlier this year (2008), to in essence accomodate Bryn Mawr College near their campus. I think they were the only municipality to do any updates in 2008.

Dirty Fellini?

Ok, so it is no joke that when you go past Fellini Cafe the windows look grimy and slimy. If you park in that little parking lot near where the rear of their property is, well, it is dirty.

Check out these reports from Montgomery County Health Department...and be grossed out:
Facility Name: Fellini Café, Inc.
License Number: A13407
Address: 31 E. Lancaster Avenue
City: Ardmore
Municipality: Lower Merion
Inspection Dates:
8/27/2008
8/8/2008
Total Inspections: 2

WriteMarsh Blog Hassled By First Amendment Hater?

So, if The Washington Post calls someone a slumlord, The Times Herald repeats it, and a blogger promotes it, why is it the blogger gets hassled? Well that appears to be happening, or has happened, and well it's just silly, isn't it? To follow is a excerpt and link to the WriteMarsh post, Washington Post articles that reference this guy with his knickers in a twist, and the thing from The Times Herald and then you decide if you think this person hassling Writemarsh is justified, ok?

Thoughts From Radnor Worth Reading

A blog that is well worth reading is called "Round Radnor". At least someone who lives in Radnor has the guts to say things are a little funky. (In Radnor is it like against some township ordinance to blog or something? They all act like it's something really racy.)

Here are a couple of posts worth clicking over to:

Is VFMA Experiencing Bad Mojo?

Wow, first their was the gun thing this summer, and now two things which are really sad: a kid having a heart attack and a toddler getting hit by a car...both on VFMA campus.

Sounds like bad mojo to me....

Radnor Rules Against Residents....Is This Becoming a Habit?

Radnor Township Zoning Hearing Board is the board that can't say no...and they ruled against neighbors in favor of developers for things that North Wayne residents in particular have good reason to worry about. Appeal 2782 in Ward 1 got passed.

Ethics Reform? Great Idea! Make it Local Too!

I will preface what I am about to say with a very clear statement: This is not an endorsement of one politician over another. This is simply promoting a good idea I read on PA WaterCooler this morning.

And it's all about ethics. I think we need ethics reform in Harrisburg. For example, the shocking behavior of Rep. Art Hershey (Chester County) and his merry band of dog haters over puppy mill reforms? What is ethically or morally right about their behavior?

Bi Co News is Talking Local Burglaries

So here is a full fledged article on recent crime on local college campuses. Bravo for BiCo news for talking about it openly. As we all know, colleges are not always forthcoming when it comes to talking about crime on campus since it's bad for business so to speak.
