Jennifer Brown Survey Responses

Jenny Brown, Ward 2 - Gladwyne 1. Do you agree or disagree with the finding of blight in Historic Ardmore? Please elaborate. A. "Blight" is a legal term defined by statute. I understand that the property declared blighted satisfied the legal definition of the term. From an aesthetic standpoint, I would not agree that Historic Ardmore is "blighted." However, I believe all can agree that Ardmore needs revitalization and we can and should build on and from this consensus. 2. In what circumstances and situations should eminent domain be exercised by Lower Merion Township? A. Just because the governing body may have the legal power to exercise eminent domain does not mean that it always should do so. Eminent domain should be exercised very carefully, under limited circumstances, after thoughtful deliberation and consultation with the community. 3. What is your position on the proposed Ardmore Redevelopment Plan and what will you do regarding its implementation if elected? A. The Ardmore Redevelopment Plan is a moving target. No one knows what parts of Option B will actually be submitted or what the plan will look like when it finally goes before the Board. Therefore, I cannot take a position on a question that has yet to be asked. When a plan for Ardmore redevelopment comes before me, I will thoughtfully consider the plan and options and community feedback. It is important to me not only that the community has an opportunity to be heard, but that the community feels that it actually was fairly and justly heard. Community groups such as SAC and civic associations can play an important and valuable role to ensure that their constituents are heard and have been included as part of the process.
