Cary McClain Survey Responses

Cary McClain, Ward 4 - Ardmore/Haverford 1. Do you agree or disagree with the finding of blight in Historic Ardmore? Please elaborate. A. The historic Mom and Pop Shops are not blighted! My opponent, Maryam Phillips, has voted to tear down these shops To call these thriving businesses blighted is a work of complete fiction and it is intellectually dishonest. The VOTER'S do not support her smoke and mirrors politics. Please vote to save the "Mom and Pop" shops at www.LMTRUTH.com. The businesses set for demolition by my opponent's vote are all vibrant, thriving stores in Historic buildings. Each business and building adds to the fabric and character of our town! The buildings housing these businesses are multi-million dollar historic edifices with non-stop curbside storefront activity. We cannot rightly call these "Mom and Pop" shops blighted. A superb Chinese restaurant which has been in the owner's family for more than 30 years in its present location cannot be labeled blighted. An office supply store that has been owned by one family for 80 years with "one stop shopping" for all of the residences/businesses in Lower Merion cannot be labeled blighted. A Veterans of Foreign Wars meetinghouse where our brave military veterans gather cannot be labeled blighted. A popular thrift store run by a women's group which raises money for a hospital cannot be labeled blighted. The best way to show my opponent that we need revitalization without tearing down the "Mom and Pop" shops is to vote for Cary Bevan McClain in November. 2. In what circumstances and situations should eminent domain be exercised by Lower Merion Township? A. I do not support eminent domain abuse! Eminent domain should never be used by the local government to tear down thriving, vibrant businesses or residences. There is never a good reason for tearing down our working neighbors American Dreams. My opponent, Maryam Phillips, voted for the tear down option. This is the Ward she is supposed to represent. She should have fought for her working neighbors. She should have fought for revitalization of Ardmore. Instead, she turned her back on her own business people and supports a small revitalization idea that is doomed. The plan she supports is a small, hastily decided idea with no backing. A garage in the proposed area will add to traffic congestion. A huge mult[i]-level parking garage in downtown Ardmore on Lancaster Avenue will make our town look like "Queen of Prussia." I support building a parking garage with retail and residential above, however, it must be placed in an area where it will succeed. Certainly, throwing such a building on top of thriving stores is not the right choice. As commissioner, I refuse to support bad ideas that lack sound judgment and solid leadership.
