Craig LaBan ate at the new Saint James restaurant in Suburban Square and came away unhappy. Personally, I hearitly dislike the music they blast into the courtyard, and the fact that their menu is not posted where you can see it from outside. http://www.philly.com/philly/food/20130127_The_Saint_James.html |

I'm with Craig LaBan, but my gripe is on the ambiance and atmosphere as much as the food. I went in wanting to like the place, but during my one visit it distinctly reminded me of a stodgy, tired old dining room in a main line country club, the kind that the good intentions of painting up the place, redoing the floors and hanging a few pictures didn't mask what it really is, part of an institution past it's prime. The clientel that day definitely added to this impression. I kind of expected to see a wedding reception is a banquet room next door, or hear a gaggle of ladies socializing following an afternoon meeting of the junior league.
