SAC ALERT: Take The Main Line Life Poll On The Eve of a Very Important Ardmore Anniversary!

On March 22, 2006 the Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners passed the resolution rejecting the proposed use of eminent domain for private gain. On March 22nd, 2006 Ardmore breathed easy for the first time in a couple of years. March 22, 2007 is the first anniversary of this....we've come a long way baby since those early days of snide comments about "buggies" and "small group of mean spirited individuals", and being chided at public meetings for quoting Mark Twain!

Now, as we quickly approach the one year anniversary of what was (and still is) a nationally recognized momentous occasion, we stop to take stock of who we are, what we have done, and where we are going. And it's all good.

We have played it forward assisting other neighborhood and civic groups within Lower Merion Township, and even helped out in other communities in neighboring townships. We continue to work towards a better Ardmore and have been assured by the President of the Board of Commissioners that as the RFP for Ardmore develops, we will be at the table as part of the ad hoc committee.

We are continuing to play a big part in First Friday, are working hand in hand with the Ardmore Initiative on the fundraiser for Moira Shaughnessy, and are planning more community forums, a review of which in the Inquirer said it all with the title of the article. The title of the article was "Preservation Group Inspires".

We're proud of that. We're proud of what we have accomplished and what is yet to come. We are all volunteers with full time lives who work really hard. More people are getting to know us and some might even grudgingly admit at this point that their initial perception of us was incorrect. Of course, there are still others that still don't get it in general, or us, and that is their unfortunate loss. They can continue to call us and other groups like ours "homegrown civic organizations", until the cows come home (which is not likely given all the development of farmland in Pennsylvania).

We love our Ardmore, and our other Lower Merion communities. Now our pal Tom Murray, Managing Editor of Main Line Life has popped a poll on the front page, lower left hand side of Main Line Life's website which just tickles our SAC Fancy:

READER POLL
Do you think neighborhood groups stand in the way of progress on the Main Line?

  • Yes
  • No
  • I think that’s SACrilegious!

(so far "I think that's SACrilegious" is winning by a handy magin. Make it a landslide and vote. And when you're finished with that go Blogging With The Editor by clicking on the hyperlink in the top right corner under "Highlights"..tell 'em SAC sent ya!)

I created an actual site-wide poll about this, which can be found here.
