Bill Spingler you just want to run for everything don't you? So did you really think we wouldn't find that 24 year old article where you wanted to get rid of the job you now want?

Letting Bill Spingler have this way on this and run for treasurer is like giving the fox the keys to the proverbial hen house.

Radnor, time to retire the Spingler and his schemes. He has made enough money off of good old Radnor Township over the years. Osborne is a little odd but at least everything about him isn't questionable, right? Ok Radnor can you actually send Bill Spingler packing this time? Or do you want him to have a new badge to flash at people?

MLMN: Radnor commissioner announces plans to run for treasurer

Published: Tuesday, February 26, 2013

William Spingler, a longtime Radnor commissioner and former county councilman, announced on Monday he will run for township treasurer in the spring primary.

He said he would like to work with the board of commissioners, township manager and finance director to expand the scope of what the treasurer does.

“I have a good relationship with them,” he stated Monday. “I think we can work together.”

“If elected treasurer I have a wealth of information,” he added, “and I can help people with their problems.”

John Osborne, a former FBI special agent and insurance-fraud investigator, is in his second term as township treasurer. On Monday he told Main Line Media News that he will run for a third term.

The Radnor resident and Republican said during an interview that in his post he halted wasteful spending and investigated the former township manager’s unauthorized payment of bonuses to himself and other administrators.

He said he admires the current township administration, including Township Manager Robert Zienkowski and Finance Director William M. White.

The Gop Flexes Its Muscle In Radnor

May 21, 1989|By Dominic Sama, Inquirer Staff Writer

....At Democratic election night headquarters, Bill Spingler's home on St. Davids Road, party workers trooped in with voting results that Chairman Jon Valbert tallied on an oval table in the crowded kitchen.

For refreshments, the Spinglers served ham-and-cheese sandwiches, a fruit salad, cookies and beer.

"The thing is, we look at it as a fight for the right thing," Spingler said of his party's role. "We will still play the game. The tax collector is an outmoded position, and we brought it to the voters' attention, but they decided to vote for the Republican Party and not efficiency."

The main duty of Treasurer James F. Merriman, 72, a former leader of the township GOP, is collecting taxes. The Democrats said the township would save money and enjoy more efficient tax collection if people paid taxes directly to a local bank. The Radnor Township School District will begin using that system July 1.

As soon as Democratic Commissioner James C. Higgins Jr. lashed out in February at a proposed $5,000 raise for Merriman, up to $20,000 a year, the Republicans reacted. They made "Save the Charter" their rallying cry in the battle over the treasurer's job, referring to the 1976 township charter, which set up the job of treasurer.

They organized the Citizens Committee to Preserve the Charter, which began with a head start - a Republican registration advantage in the township of 10,996-3,590.....A blue-and-white foldout brochure - including two photographs of Merriman, a resume of his eight years in office, a chart showing Merriman's collection rate of taxes, and graphs comparing Radnor's collection rate with surrounding townships - was mailed to 9,000 households and cost upward of $5,000....The Democrats' mailing included 8-by-11-inch fliers, printed on two sides in black and white, with a plea to vote for the referendum and to elect four endorsed candidates for the school board. The cost of the fliers was about $3,500.

Well Bill Spingler are you a little bit pregnant here or do you like being caught with your pants down? So what is it? Real estate not profitable enough or don't you think you could survive another election? Whatever the case may be, you are once again talking out of both sides of your mouth. Bag the career change and slide into oblivion old man, it's time.

Carla,

1989 good memory.  I belief he deserves opprobrium, but some, at least 51% of the voters in his ward love him.  He visits them daily and shovels snow for them.  He always has a long term plan, like seller their home in the future.

From his flyer:

'The Spingler Agency sells homes for 1-2-3% instead of the traditional 6% commission!!

To put more money in your pocket when you sell call

Bill Spingler.'

His long term plan to become the treasurer could be to abolish the office and be a commissioner again.  If he does not win he could stay as a commissioner.  I think Radnor would be better with Bill off of the BOC.  I would certainly prefer John Osborne as treasurer over Bill.

I think if it was not for John, Radnor would still have Bashore and if it was not for Bill, Radnor would have removed Bashore sooner.

When Bill Spingler starts to shovel snow in the other 6 wards beware.

Ah, Carla - Yes indeedy - electing Bill Spingler as RT Treasurer would be placng the fox in the 'gold plated' henhouse. It is being 'said' that Bill is quitting being a Commissioner as the Twp is out of $$ and he cannot get any of his projects done. Fortunately, there is another Dem stepping forward to challenge Bill. Stay tuned!!!

How much does the Radnor treasurer really make?

The LM treasurer just stated at a township meeting he made over $200,000 a year and receives a percentage of the taxes collected from the school district, county and township (it’s a cake job, but the way).

The MLT article indicated Radnor “township” pays its treasurer $26k a year. In Radnor, 12% of the tax bill goes to the township, 18% to the county, and 70% to the school district.

My question is, does the Radnor treasurer make over $200k a year like the LM treasurer and is the $26k listed in the article only the township portion?

In LM the treasurer receives a cut from the township, county and school district and rips off taxpayers to the tune of an income over $200k a year for sitting behind a desk and twiddling his thumbs.

This is probably what is motivating the old coot.

The salary for Radnor's  township-wide elected Treasurer is outlined in the Townships Home Rule Charter. Yes, his annual salary is as stated. The Twp Treasurer does NOT collect the RT School District taxes. and, actually, all tax receipts for Radnor go to a TD Bank [I believe]. The salary John Osborne receives is for his services and has no relationship with the $$ of taxes received.  His role is as a 'watchdog'.

So treasurer is basically a part-time job at only $26k a year in Radnor.

I can still see how Spingy wants the extra money in this pocket, what with a still pretty flat real estate market where he will only take one or two percent commission for a sale. My take is he is in it for the money and nothing else.

Now makes me want to look into why the LM treasurer takes so much of our tax dollars for himself with such a cake job. Believe me, in LM the treasurer is not a watchdog. All government agents in LM do is watch out for each other's backs.

What happened at the meeting of Radnor Democrats last evening? Goerge Badey is not much of a leader, so I am curious as to what happened?

See comment here a. la. "... how about ..., like a newspaper or newssource, create a headline to reflect the highlight of what actually happened at the meeting, a. al.,  "Radnor Township votes to ban leaf burning at monthly meeting, citizens express outrage... or whatever."

Hey there a7368261 - go bite someone else's ankles for a while. Preferably elsewhere...most people find you rather boring and predictable. You could also start your own blog so you could have the order and tidiness you crave along with the control. TTFN

I'm so sorry, I have to apologize because I had not realized you hold a monopoly on rendering an opinion on here. I guess I'll just put my tail between my legs and find my way home for the evening.

I am really mad!!!!  I've been sending my County Tax money to Media every year!

I did not know Radnor had been annexed by Lower Merion.

Why else would somebody in Ardmore be so interested in happenings in Radnor Twp.

Also, great Googling skills. Must be channeling Uncle Ben Cramer.

Has to be a LM or Harriton grad. Radnor's schools aren't that good.

Does Norristown know about this?

“It was not a campaign piece. I asked the township to reproduce that because I wanted to give it out to residents as I was going around [knocking on] every door in Radnor.”
