We have had reports of the meeting in Bryn Maaaawaaa last evening. Apparently it was a civic association plus meeting over at the Bryn Mawr Community Center next to Ludington Library.

So in case you have been sleeping over TRID (Transit Revitilization Investment District) but we find it a Tricky Ridiculous Irksome Disaster, and is this just a developer's idea of manna for heaven forget about what is left of the Bryn Mawr residents and small businesses that were there first, here are some resources:

Now we are sure as spittin' someone in local government might be having a conniption about us promoting anything on this, but kids....we've had phone calls and e-mails today....why?

Because two dirty words came up: EMINENT DOMAIN

SEPTA are perennially irresponsible regional transit authority has the ability NOW to use eminent domain if it wanted, you all know that, right?

Well....TRID has the potential, or shall we say, giving them MORE room to do so if they so chose...so if Lower Merion Township were to pledge to Bryn Mawr NOT to use eminent domain, it's great, but unless SEPTA makes a similar pledge, preferably in writing released to local government AND the media, well, that unfortunate door is open and no one can spin their way out of that.

Folks in Bryn Maaawwwaaa are concerned because they feel TRID is like a murky lake, you can't see the boundaries or the bottom. But hey, they aren't all wet are they if the actual TRID boundaries keep shifting like a shoreline after a hurricane, right?

Supposedly there will be a big TRID meeting...in June or July when people start to go on vacation of course....Angela Murray said the money gotten for TRID will be managed by the township, self directed IN house. Hmmmm. Will the public be privy to a monthly accounting, or will it be like all those issues we had over how money was spent in Ardmore (and we still feel that pricey outside retail consultant/expert was a big waste of money).

What do folks in Bryn Mawr want to know other than who on earth wants to ruin Glenmede by developing it? Things like:

What will happen to the last residential neighborhoods in Bryn Mawr in the TRID Zone?

What will go on on Central Avenue and is TRID a very expensive way to really just allow the hospital more freebies?

Do we really need TRID and does Lower Merion REALLY know what they are doing when it comes to that slightly Disneyesque theory of New Urbanism?

Richard Wesley inferred last night that TRID was like taking a very large and destructive sledge hammer to Bryn Mawr when the delicate hands of a sculptor and a small hammer and chisel is what is needed...can't disagree...Full steam ahead Bryn Mawr...Face it, you are every bit at risk as Ardmore.

Maybe it's time for the overly prodevelopment to go? Zoning changes, moritoriums on development, sensitive comprehensive planning...that is what is needed. Lower Merion can you hear us now? Yet? If TRID allows eminent domain, we don't need that again in Lower Merion, do we?
