OPEN THREAD: Who wants to see PhillyCarShare in Ardmore?

Folks, There was discussion over on this blog entry about the possibility of getting PhillyCarShare here in Ardmore. el109 pointed out to us that Philly Car Share located their pods based on membership. That is, if there are more members in Ardmore, it will increase the chances of them having a pod here in Ardmore. So, why join Philly Car Share? It's free. A basic membership requires no application fee, no security deposit, and no annual fee. Insurance is included. No need to worry about if your insurance company covers rental cars, PhillyCarShare has that taken care of. And if you use a Visa card, you may be eligible for their "zero deductable" program. (Amex card holders automatically get CDW coverage provided on any vehicles they rent with the card.) Car rental by the hour. Just have a couple of errands to run? No problem. Rent a car for just a couple of hours and pay for only those hours. I can rent a car, get groceries, and return it, all for about $15. You only pay for what you use. If you work in the city (like me), you could be paying hundreds of dollars of month to have a car sitting unused in your driveway. With PhillyCarShare, if you don't use any of their cars, you pay nothing. No lines when you want to rent. When you want to use a PhillyCarShare vehicle, you make a reservation online or over the phone, then proceed to that pod, swipe your electronic "fob" over the sensor on the car, get in, and drive off. With dozens and dozens of pods, there may be one near where you work. And if enough people from Ardmore join, they may even open a pod right here! Ever wanted to drive a BMW or a Mini Cooper? Now you can. With over a dozen different models of cars available, you can drive whatever you like. There are even pickup trucks available for those times when you need to move furniture. Additionally, a number of cars in the fleet are hybrids, which help reduce fuel consumption and reduce the impact of vehicle use on the environment. 10% discount with AVIS. Making longer trips? PhillyCarShare members get a 10% discount when renting from AVIS. Have questions? They have a FAQ. Yes, I am a member of PhillyCarShare. I would like to see PhillyCarShare here in Ardmore and everywhere. I finally have a few moments to reply to this thread.
The care share idea is such a fantastic opportunity for us all to practice less consumption in a society based on consumption. Although, my wife and I are not yet in a position to have no cars, due to our current work situations, we have many friends who already use this service. Those that live around Ardmore have found it frustrating that there is no close pick-up or drop-off area here. Even though we might not be users yet, I think it would be a great idea to work on getting CarShare here in Ardmore. Between all the folks I know who would use it and given that many of the apartment complexes (Radwyn for example) on the main line are full of graduate students who can't afford cars, this should be a very successful location for PhillcarShare.

permalinkPhilly Car Share is terrific. I have membership through work (I work in Center City) and frequently use their cars for work events and travel. Sometimes my PhillyCarShare Prius makes it out here to Ardmore overnight. I still need my dreadful minivan for hauling my kids, but, especially as my kids get older and start driving, could see myself using an Ardmore PhillyCarShare regularly.
