Radnor Commissioners Take Taxpayer Funded Field Trip?

Before we get to trolling through Radnor Township, we wanted mention the fact that a couple large restaurants are dark: The Bryn Mawr Pub which started as a Great American Pub in Bryn Mawr across from the ACME (the former Marita's and Spada's booby bar if your're really a long timer)is out of commission with a "For Sale" sign hanging from the building...a quick call to The Bakery House (go buy some baked goods - super yummy stuff) verified they were deceased (the phone is disconnected too)- something to do with not getting a liquor license again? Delaware County Real Estate Records as of today show the pub's property owner (the Bryn Mawr Pub was located at 610 Lancaster Ave. Bryn Mawr) as Main Line Restaurant Assoc Lp 610-612 Lancaster Ave Bryn Mawr , PA 19010 - previously the property was owned by Hemcher Family Partnership and previous to that Maritas Of Haverford Inc ( see Folio Number: 22-05-00466-00)...now that leaves that large space and the former StoreHouse/Silo site also empty - pretty barren landscape - Haverford Township, by the way.

The other closing is reported to be temporary for remodling - The Wild Onion in Rosemont a/k/a Garrett Hill - 900 Conestoga Road - hopefully when they re-open they will be less geared towards college students...

So anyway...we've been trolling www.radnor.com again....we find report of an executive field trip from April in the May 14th meeting minutes:

Notice of Executive Meeting
President Mahoney reported that an executive meeting was held prior to the public meeting of April23,2007, where personnel, administrative, litigation and real estate matters were discussed. All commissioners were present except Commissioner Hervada.

Commissioners Paolino, Higgins, Blomstrom, Spingler, and Dave Bashore took a fact-finding trip to Maryland and Virginia for the purpose of inspecting mixed use development in those areas.

Hmmm....massages, take home company cars AND field trips....wow...wouldn't y'all just love those perks? Who pays? Taxpayers?

Correct us if we are wrong, but wasn't there just a big nationwide planning conference in Philadelphia recently? And Maryland and Virginia? Wow. Great historic preservation but totally getting overdeveloped. That is a model for Radnor? Look out Wayne you could end up looking like a strip mall around Bethesda and soon might consider The Cheesecake Factory as fine dining, but then considering the sheer proliferation of "Pubs", or should we say more specifically Pub Sprawl in downtown Wayne that might be now considered a fine dining alternative?

That is it on meeting minutes, as it takes Radnor a really long time to post them - but hey at least they do post meeting minutes online - we can't seem to find that online at www.lowermerion.org

We will note that they have a Board of Commissioners meeting schedued for this evening June 18th (http://www.radnor.com/egov/docs/1182178517_390350.pdf ) and we found this interesting tidbit on the agenda:

7. Presentation on 5-point intersection improvements;
authorization to develop Mutual Aid Agreement with
Lower Merion Township

Well hey not, that's us, Lower Merion? Hmmmm....
