JULY HEATS UP WITH FIRST FRIDAY MAIN LINE ON FRIDAY JULY 6TH , 2007!
First Friday Main Line continues to make your summer sizzle when we turn up the heat on Friday July 6th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Ardmore, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr! Grab your friends, grab your family, and hop a trolley and make it a night with great venues including (but not limited to):
Cricket Avenue Block Party, Ardmore: Ska, the ever hip music genre which some say originated in Jamaica in the 1950's as a precursor to reggae, and some say even had roots as far back as the 1930's is coming to the Cricket Avenue Block Party, courtesy of the musical trend setters at Milkboy Coffee and First Friday Main Line!
Popularized in many of our memories by groups like Madness, The Specials, and The English Beat in the 1980's, Ska is timeless and fun - makes you feel like dancing! So find your happy feet and make your way to Cricket Avenue for The Junkyard Gang which hails from Maryland and Virginia! The Junkyard Gang features a five piece horn section with their own special blend of Ska, Reggae, Rock, and Funk. www.myspace.com/thejunkyardgang 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
Super Suppers 16 W. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore: We are a jazz loving group here at First Friday, and we are thrilled to bring to Super Suppers the smooth stylings of the Rob Marino Quintet. These fine folks perform all around the tri state area. Not only do they perform clever arrangements of jazz and pop standards, but original jazz compositions as well. These cool cats include bandleader/drummer Rob Martino, Sophie Fought on the tenor sax, Joe McDonough on the trombone, guitarist Jason Klinke and bassist Justin Sekelewski. All of these incredibly talented musicians are Jazz Majors at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. 7:00 P.M. to 8 P.M. and 8:20 P.M. to 9:20 P.M.
Ahhh...Lin Phan Salon and Spa 1000 West Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr: Skat on over here and stay awhile. International jazz artist/arranger/producer Barbara Montgomery is bringing her sultry jazz stylings to Bryn Mawr! Barbara Montgomery has been blessed to collaborate and perform with the best of the jazz world, her favorites being those musicians who live right here in the Greater Philadelphia area. She has produced six of her own CDs, two of which--"Little Sunflower" and "Trinity"--have won "Best Jazz Vocals" from the International Association of Jazz Educators. 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. and 8 P.M. to 9P.M.
Also in Bryn Mawr? The inaugural season of Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts continues with Phyllis Chappell and Sherry Stomach, Bill Nixon and friends at the Gazebo at 9 S. Bryn Mawr Avenue at 7 p.m. First Friday concerts are free!
Additional First Friday events include folks like artists Dennis and Debra Colligan at The Ardmore Initiative, Grace Gunning at Past*Present*Future in Ardmore with delectable delicacies provided by ChriStevens Catering, artist Zelda Edelson at Main Line Jewel of India in Ardmore, Raku Pottery at The Main Line Art Center in Haverford along with “Music Under The Stars” provided by Main Line Opera Guild at neighboring Haverford Estates.
