Why Can't Some Ardmore Businesses Just Play By The Rules?
Remember last year when there was that ginormous sidewalk hole in front of a certain restaurant in Ardmore? We didn't rest at SAC until it was fixed... Remember the news that broke July 13th, 2006? Give up? It was an article announcing that Lower Merion officially had a sidewalk dining ordinance - we could all dine al fresco at our favorite spots....space permitting. Well sidewalk dining has been so awesome that we hate to be the bearer of bad news....but we feel we must be...you see, while all of the other restaurants with sidewalk dining have been playing by the rules, one restaurant has been making up their own rules...we're sorry to say it is Fellini Cafe in Ardmore. It pains us to point out something negative on our favorite block in Ardmore...truly...but Fellini needs to get with the program...they can't just recreate the chaos of their interior dining spaces outside on the public sidewalk - people need to be able to get by on the sidewalk too. Please note we aren't the only ones in Ardmore talking about this. Fellini Cafe, for once do the right thing. Play by the rules. Don't ruin a good thing for everyone else. So is Felini cafe blocking the sidewalk or what? Some pictures would be awesome.
I'll note that they are not the only offenders. The Corner Bakery on Anderson Ave next to the train station is also pretty bad about blocking the sidewalk. I'll try to take some pictures of them sometime.

permalinkyes there are a series of photos - check the usual spot. Please note that Positano, Mikado, and MilkBoy in Ardmore are all awesome - not only do they all have really attractive tables and even some have cool umbrellas (Positano expecially)...and Cafe San Pietro and Positano seem to have garden dining in the back which is just lovely.
This sidewalk dining is such a fun thing in the summer and no one wants to sound like sour grapes because it is awesome, but SAC has spoken to like a dozen people who have issue with Fellini's table placement on the sidewalk - they also have some astroturf going on - now that seems to have been shortened, but still if you have a baby carriage or stroller, or are walking next to someone, you can't walk side by side - you have to weave and/or actually go on Lancaster. There needs to be a dedicated path that is unobstructed...and the table placement seems to change during the day....
We really wish Fellini would become an active partner in the community and play fair. We're sure they won't like this opinion, but aren't people allowed opinions?

permalinkIt has been a long time since we commented on Fellini, and now is time. Did they ever make good on that problematic check to First Friday Main Line? We heard NO.
Perhaps Fellini Cafe should lose their outside dining for continuing to flaunt the rules? Where was the three feet of clearence this evening? We have had a new report from two SAC members that this evening they once again had the awnings out, the umbrellas with large umbrella stands blocking the sidewalk AND tables out too far.
Earlier this summer it was the illegal raised platforms covered with astroturf with tables. It is a fact that they are not playing by the rules.
Here are some photos taken in recent months showing their issue. It plain old sucks that they abuse the sidewalk dining in Ardmore. And we have heard more tales of problems while dining there. If you have had a Fellini experience that was not so good, please write in.
