Inquirer Owners To Let Historic HQ Go....Condo?
|
The rumors have finally found a voice....the glorious Philadelphia Inquirer building, a historic landmark and iconic piece of Philadelphia history is for sale to the highest bidder...along with all the layoffs, union wars, etc, etc, is this the next "sound" business decision, or merely an honest reflection of paper ownership? C'mon on now, are there or are there not developers in the investor pool/ownership of the Inquirer/Daily News? So here's the question, is the Inquirer building encumbered with debts and liens and mortgages? Or is it free and clear? Because how much money will it take to rent office space, etc? Why is it when it comes to anything Philadelphia, nothing is sacred? And why is it Philadelphia needs more condos? Have they sold every single one out there? What a total, yet expectable bummer - any memory of what the Inquirer was is being erased one project, one brick, one person at a time....ans yet, the most ironic thing? Apparently there is no plan in place on where to relocate the people who will be displaced? Hello? Inquirer Building to be sold
Just another example of out wit da old and in wit da nouveau - kinda like Ricks Steaks at Reading Teminal (For more on that saga check out this link.),or what's going on over in Ithan (Radnor),or 130 Cricket,or Lee's Shoddy Mess, moving the Barnes,etc,etc---- right? Out with the old, in with the nouveau? Build it and they will come? Why own when we can rent? Can it be said once the Inquirer loses it's building it will have less than of a presence than ever?
