permalinkFriends of the Barnes Press Event:
The event was covered by the area's major television and print outlets, including The New York Times and the Associated Press. Within an hour of the press event, AP writer Jo ann Loviglio's story was up on the wire, and picked up by the International Herald Tribune and others available in the News Section. News also has posts from bloggers: TIME Magazine's Richard Lacayo, Arts Journal Writer Tyler Green in his Modern Art Notes blog, Lee Rosenbaum's Culture Grrl blog. (Meanwhile, the Inquirer still pegged the story as a Local News item. Trying hard to neutralize the Friends of the Barnes, the paper persists in its characterization of those involved as a small group of pesky Barnes neighbors and never once mentioned Friends of the Barnes Foundation. [Guess they had trouble reading their press packet.] That article would be pathetic if it weren't so dangerous. This is a serious case of an important media outlet abusing its power.)
Meanwhile, back at the press conference, Jay Raymond delivered inspiring Introductory Remarks at the opening of the Press Conference and read U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach's message of support. Friends' attorney, Mark D. Schwartz, Esq., laid out the impressive breadth of the case, a case that casts light into dark, unseemly corners where plans have been hatched over many years to eviscerate the Barnes Foundation.
A great many people have hoped for this day to come. The court filing is an important first step in speaking truth power and we will need and so appreciate your support. More details available on the Friends website.
