Sad or Sour or Hopeful? How do you feel about Ardmore? Lower Merion Township?

Before we get to the questions and doubts of it all, something positive: what Joe Rufo is doing for Ardmore by bringing the All Natural site back to life as "JR Monaghans" - the restaurant opens shortly and we are pleased as punch to see organic growth prove itself in Ardmore. Joe is putting his money where his mouth is and is investing in Ardmore NO MATTER WHAT! He BELIEVES in Ardmore! Check out a couple of photos and when this new place opens, go and check it out. It is going to be terrific! And what a yummy menu!

Now back to our regularly schedule programming: Well tomorrow is THE night, or so they say. Ardmore is getting another chance like a cat with nine lives. Will Lower Merion choose a developer for Ardmore? Will it be the forgone conclusion being bandied about town or will it be a real public process?

Or is it enough to consider it a public process because the public gets to speak?

How do you all feel? Because we're not sure. We wish we could say chose developer "A" over developer "B" and "C", but if we do, can it be wondered if it will be business as usual and Lower Merion will choose exactly the opposite of the choice endorsed by the public?

Are some of the public choosing a particular developer because they are feeling a little NIMBY or perhaps they are feeling they just have to chose anyone to get the process moving?

How much developement do we need given the fact that there are so many other projects brewing?

What is enough development? What do all of you out there think? No, don't tell us now, show the freak up at the public meeting and say it loud and say it proud no matter what your opinion is. SAC has helped a lot of you out there the past few years, and now we are asking you to help our beloved Ardmore.

Dranoff Properties Presentation - 3/17/2008 (PowerPoint®)

As long as Ardmore is getting redevelopment for the right reasons, we should in the end try to hope for the best.

And we hear through the grapevive Bryn Mawr is part progress and part plain disturbing? Who does government work for over there? Why did the neighborhoods of Summit Grove and Central Avenues get pulverized to a pulp if now MORE residential is being proposed? When did hospitals stop being about medecine and start being about retail shops and real estate and residential development?

I think it is good thing that the process will move along again. I'm very sad that we will not see the Lipkin plan since I think it was the best plan for Ardmore.

Concerns:
We will get many years of development, that will affect residents and business alike, with casualties along the way and it my not end in the way we all hope it will...

more density
more traffic
more crime
more trash
increased demand for gov't services resulting in higher taxes
that will have good people leaving Ardmore

I guess that is my fear...
