Is Lisa Paolino buying votes?

Lance Rogers is very unhappy with Lisa Paolino. It seems that she has been putting campaign advertisements together with coupons for a car wash. Apparently this is illegal under Pennsylvania Law as outlined in the below press release from Lance Rogers' office.

Now, since I've been bagging on Lisa a lot lately, maybe I should clarify my position. I do not support Lance Rogers, John Nagle, nor anyone else who ran against her in any election. I do however, NOT support Lisa. Between this and her being First Amendment-challenged, I do not think she has any business holding any sort of public office. So I guess you could say my position is "Anybody But Lisa Paolino".

Anyway, here's the press release, as originally seen on Grassroots PA:

RELEASE: ROGERS CAMPAIGN CALLS ON STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE TO INVESTIGATE PAOLINO’S ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN TACTICS

Car Wash Coupons Feature Paolino’s Picture and Campaign Information; Former D.A. Bruce Castor Joins in Call for AG to Investigate; If Convicted, Paolino Would be Ineligible to Serve in State Senate

(Ardmore, PA) – Endorsed Republican Lance Rogers, running in the 17th state senate district, is calling on the state Attorney General’s office to investigate a violation of Pennsylvania state law engineered by Lisa Paolino’s state senate campaign. The Bryn Mawr Car Wash’s cash value coupons, including saving $50 on a “Complete Detail,” appear on the back of Paolino’s campaign literature. It is illegal to offer a cash incentive to induce or influence a vote in Pennsylvania.

“This is a very troubling allegation. Soliciting votes in exchange for something of value is unseemly and perhaps illegal,” said former Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor. “A referral to the prosecuting authorities would be warranted in my view.”

In addition to a prohibition on exchanging votes for something of monetary value, Pennsylvania election law prohibits corporations from contributing directly or indirectly to political campaigns. Business records filed with the Department of State show that Bryn Mawr Car Wash, located at 931 Lancaster Ave, is a corporation in Pennsylvania.

“At the very least, this is a critical lapse of judgment and could be reasonably viewed as an illegal attempt to buy votes. These coupons are worth real money, illegally promote Ms. Paolino’s candidacy and are being distributed throughout the district with the very real possibility of affecting the outcome of a state election in one week,” said Lance Rogers. “I am calling on the state Attorney General’s office to take an immediate look at this illegal activity before the election on April 22nd.”

The coupons offer over $56 in discounted services. A violation of Pennsylvania’s bribery statute is a felony. If convicted, Ms. Paolino will be ineligible to serve as a state Senator. A copy of the Car Wash coupon is attached to this release.
