Rugby Road in Bryn Mawr and Allaire in Haverford: Is It Time To Call it a Day on These Plans Yet?
|
We've had updates from both our pals in Haverford (on North Buck) and our pals in Bryn Mawr (on Rugby Road). Unfortunately, we are forced to report that both plans are still alive. We can't say alive and well, however, given the realities of the real estate market, can we? Are these things on financial life support? Farley, the proposed developer for Rugby Road, has been dragging his heels, but the plan is not dead yet, and is that correct? The carrying costs must be incredible at this point, eh? Say, isn't he the guy who recently rented (or was it donated?)office space to a politician from another municipality who shall remain nameless? Hall, the proposed developer for Allaire (North Buck and Old Lancaster), is also in a similar heel dragging position, doing little things here and there to keep that horrific plan alive, isn't that correct? The carrying costs must be incredible at this point, eh? The big difference between the two developers is Farley was smart enough to keep those houses on Rugby Road occupied - many, if not all, seem rented. Hall is different. There are no people living in those homes - they lie fallow and have given the surrounding neighborhood a blighted feel. Would that both of these developers would simply pick up their toys and go home. The peak of the boom market is so gone no one can see it any longer in their rear view mirrors. The real estate market is in the toilet, we are in a recession (whether you call it one or not). The economy can't and won't support these plans. No one is buying and homes of a higher level aren't selling the way they used to...We hope that developers like these stop mucking about and fix up these homes and move on - it would be easier on their bottom lines in the end and might save these neighborhoods from being destroyed. This is yet another reason why those folks in North Wayne need to fight to hold onto their neighborhood. They don't want to go down this path...it's hardly lined with primroses... Isn't it interesting that both of these plans have inspired zoning changes now and in the future in 2 municipalities? Just a thought. Bookmark/Search this post with: |
