Free Range Kitties Verboten in Lower Merion Township? (Well, mice and other critters will be rejoicing, eh? Does this mean there is a secret dog conspiracy afoot? Or an underground mouse movement?)

Look out kitty, the cat gestapo are going to be knocking at your door! So, here it is: apparently we may now have an anti-cat ordinance in Lower Merion Township? Seriously?

So, should cats have all their shots, have kitty I.D., and should owners be responsible? Yes, of course.

But should the Lower Merion Police Department now have to police kitty cats in addition to their serious, real world responsibilities? And will this ordinance do anything except be a new tool for battling neighbors to play "gotcha" with each other? How will people know if their cat has even been picked up and sent to jail? Sometimes, even when "inside cats" accidentally get loose they are gone for hours or even a day or so.

(This is right up there with that guy suing Appleford)

Anyway, here's the skinny on this anti-cat ordinance from a previous Lower Merion Township agenda:

PRESENT FOR ORDINANCE NO. ______________.

AN ORDINANCE To Amend The Code Of The Township Of Lower Merion, Chapter 90, Health and Sanitation, to prohibit cats running at large in the Township.

This Ordinance was authorized for advertising at the May 7, 2008 special meeting of the Board of Commissioners and duly advertised in the May 14, 2008 issue of Main Line Life.

Maybe cats in Lower Merion should unionize? If we people can request dog parks, how about a cat spa? That way all these kitties and there soon to be stressed out owners will have a place to relax?

Ok, so this is a little tongue in cheek, and someone will undoubtedly get their skirts in a twist over this running commentary, but ain't the First Amendment great? It means you are allowed to have contrary opinions...even in public... If you can't see the humor in this, so sorry to offend....MEOW........
