Third Annual National Dump the Pump Day – Thursday, June 19, 2008

Third Annual National Dump the Pump Day – Thursday, June 19, 2008
Join in celebrating the Third Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 19, 2008.

The day is dedicated to raising awareness that riding public transportation helps improve the environment and conserves fuel. It also offers the opportunity for people to beat the high price of gasoline and support public transportation as an important travel option that helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil as well as reducing the amount of harmful greenhouse gases that are emitted into our environment.

On June 19, public transportation agencies from coast to coast will join together to ask you to park your cars and ride public transportation instead.

So get on board and Dump the Pump.

Here's what TONY PHYRILLAS has to say:

I haven't seen any publicity about National Dump the Pump Day, which is slated for Thursday, June 19, other than this blurb from The Associated Press:

Bus fares in Chester County to drop to 35 cents for 1 day

MALVERN, Pa. (AP) — The agency that runs three bus routes in Chester County says it will reduce fares to 35 cents for one day.

It's happening Thursday of next week to mark the National Dump the Pump Day. That's the third annual event by transit agencies nationwide to encourage people to get around without driving.

The Transportation Management Association of Chester County says it picked 35 cents because that was the base fare for public transit in Philadelphia during the 1973 oil crisis.
