Meeting of the Radnor Community Preservation Coalition

On Tuesday night RCPC held a meeting at the Township Building. I believe there were about 60 folks in attendance. The meeting was mostly an update although there was also an update for some of the attendees who had not been at the previous meeting. Included was a brief history of RCPC and how it came to be.

An update on the Keating proposal, including the fact that Keating conducted a "focus group" with a smaller group of individuals. It appears that the feedback was all pretty negative and that the proposed development was just far too big. Perhaps the number of condos could be cut back by an order of magnitude and two floors cut off the structure! And "do not move the war memorial". Parking and Stormwater were also serious concerns. Several people asked what they can do and it was suggested that they come out in force and demand that the Commissioners revise our codes to limit the height. (This response did not include the advisement that we must still be in accordance with State Law)

For the sake of discussion the idea of relocating the Library to Capelli driving range next to the Township Building. The comments were all negative and centered on the fact that the post office, library churches and school form the core of the village.

A brief presentation was made concerning the Willows Gatehouse, which has been saved (for now) from demolition and stabilized (the Township Staff was thanked for their quick response to the issues identified by Friends of the Willows Cottage)

Several other "hot spots" were also reviewed. The proposed storage facility for Pennsylvania Avenue was not granted the zoning exceptions they were seeking but they will be back.... Again the project is way too much for the neighborhood. 236 N Aberdeen is on hold until the applicant obtains a FEMA flood line change. The project is too large, includes storm water issues and will significantly affect parking in the already congested area. It was interesting that one individual took exception to the negative characterization of this project but I think he has a vested interest.

Garret Hill and Ithan Village were also visited briefly with a discussion of the progress on the overlay districts.

Stressed throughout the meeting was that the efforts are all about "Community".

I was very pleased by the attendence and by the participation. Lets keep on going!

Hmmm. There is a Radnor Township BOC meeting Monday June 16th. Is this 236 N. Aberdeen on it? The one person who spoke in favor of it is just trying to curry favor with someone obviously because that person has, shall we say issues of their own? So could this person's approval be nothing but self serving? Or if they scratch a back, they expect a little back scratching in return?

Not on the agenda. There is another interesting item. This has to do with sidewalks along Chamonuix Rd. from St Davids Train station to Eastern University. I have a hard time understanding why this is an issue. Doesn't public safety trump a few objecting neighbors who don't want to shovel sidewalks? It isn't like this is going to create increased foot traffic.
