Politics, schmolitics. Enough already
|
Every politician almost on the Main Line needs to take a BIG OL' CHILL PILL. In Lower Merion, the behavior and attitude that used to make Haverford Township Commissioners meetings akin to the Hatfields and the McCoys is now a regular occurrence. And if the public meeting aren't enough, the commissioners then move their "discussions" to the editorial page. I am all for the First Amendment, but what I am seeing is just partisan politics as usual. I am all for fiscal responsibility, but whatever side is suggesting whichever good idea gets LOST, yes LOST in the Hatfields vs. McCoys battles. 411: When it comes to local politics it is generally about the individual, not the party. But ever since the power swing swung on over to another party for majority everyone majority and minority has to flex their muscles and flap their jaws. NOTHING IS GETTING DONE and people do not know who they can talk to lest they end up in some battle as a casualty. These commissioners need to get back to work. They need to listen to the public, and that includes tempering the Father Knows Best approach to the plurality on the part of the current majority. Some of these commissioners need to stop trying to imprint their wishes and ideas on our future. What happens should be a little bit about what the people want once in a while. And news flash? What the people want is controlled development in places like Ardmore and elsewhere. That means people aren't dying for 200+ units on the Suburban Square's property because it will destroy Ardmore by the mess it will cause. We don't need the Ponte Vecchio built over train tracks. A foot bridge might be o.k., but leave the Jetson's new Penthouse for Schauffele Plaze (if it ever gets built). What the people also want is a MASTER PLAN for ARDMORE. There are too many things being proposed in a time when we all know the risk is real that projects could go belly up due to the economy. What people want is zoning and planning that protects neighborhoods, not political lip service. We wonder if the inmates are running the asylum some days in the township building? Who is "staffing" our future? (If you don't want conspiracy theories then maybe improve things?) What people also want is basic stuff like infrastructure that is up to date. What people want is to stop bleeding over taxes, including the school tax part. What people want are also school districts that have to answer and are accountable to the public, the taxpayers - have you ever noticed that in Pennsylvania we have a lot of people dealing with problematic, out of control school districts? Why is that? And Haverford Township? Why doesn't Haverford Township seem to have any historic districts? Will give props to the HT BOC: They know they have to deal with the deer problem. Hopefully the sadly unrealistic will get the joke: we as an area have rid the deer of their natural habitat through overdevelopment, and we have rid the deer of their natural predators through overdevelopment, etc as well. There is nothing natural to cull the herd, so humans have to do it. It seems cruel, but it is the law of nature. There is way too much lyme disease around here, and too many deer and car interactions. And when a deer gets hit, often the corpses just lie there on the side of the road and stink for days on end. So grow up people, they aren't all Bambis in those woods. And putting Bambi's mom on the pill isn't going to solve the problem. And moving along to Radnor Township. Is the Radnor School District kidding us? How much money belonging to taxpayers will they spend to prove another taxpayer wrong? And politics in Radnor? It's secret and subversive, ain't it just? Why do some commissioners act completely ignorant when it comes to a public safety issue of sidewalks and basically makes some half baked comment about people not in their ward commenting about sidewalks in that ward like the public is banned from certain public streets next to public transit , yet what is good for the Goose isn't apparently good for this Gander since when it came to Bloomingdale Avenue they voted in favor of the developer tearing down homes that have recently become apparent victims of demolition by neglect so they could be torn down for McBoxes? And then there is the other commissioner who wants constant revisionist history? That what they have done didn't happen? Why can't this commissioner get that if they want to be perceived differently they have to act differently? Only they probably can't do that? And there are other commissioner issues, mostly it seems that some in general are not a proactive as they should be. Does that just go with majority rule in municipalities? Is it that the political party that is in power feels they can just do as they please because they are at the top of the sand pile? 411: that is what elections and shovels are for. And there is one candidate for public office who is going to get named by name: Bob Roggio. Bob is running against Jim Gerlach in the 6th District for Congress. Bob will tell everyone how he is going to beat Jim Gerlach, only he doesn't tell you how he would be different, better, or what he's about period. All you hear is how good old Bob is a proven leader. I ask simply what has he led? I found he lost me at "hello" when he sent out those obnoxious press releases when he was playing "gotcha". He thought he was getting Jim Gerlach on not voting on items in Congress, only Congressman Gerlach had a legitimate excuse for missing a couple of votes: his mother died. It took Bob Roggio WAY too long to say he was sorry. But Bob Roggio still wants your vote. Well, Bob, here's the 411: no one knows who the freak you are. Have you come calling around the Lower Merion/Montgomery County part of the 6th district? Nope. But Bob, we're energy conscious, so for me, save your gas. I for one am not interested in you. I am going to sign off this rant now. I am not going national on politics because we live that enough as Americans daily. I am more concerned about those who have a more direct impact on our local area. When it comes to politics, it's all local....now if local would only achieve something resembling normalcy....
