So 6ABC says this guy is missing and possibly off his meds:

He's been missing since 9/11/08 according to the Philadelphia Daily News. According to a post on Craig's List, if anyone sees him, call his dad, Jeff, at 610-348-7749.
In other news, one of the missing has been found, and now there is widespread speculation that when Hannah Upp was pulled out of the NY Bay yesterday, she may have been attempting to take her own life? And of course the other rumor is that she had been fleeing an abductor? Bryn Mawr College's BiCo news in an update quote Hannah Upp's brother as basically saying the media is making stuff up and the truth will come out...okay...except you can't blame people for speculating and wondering as people have been looking and looking and looking for this woman...here are the updates:

Almost three weeks after she was reported missing, a young teacher was spotted floating in New York’s Upper Bay on Tuesday and was rescued by deckhands from a Staten Island ferry.
The teacher, Hannah Upp, 23, was plucked from the swells, taken ashore and transported to Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island, where officials said she was in stable condition.

The Mysterious Case of Hannah Upp

What's the story behind the disappearance of Bryn Mawr College grad Hannah Upp?
Update: Hannah Upp has been found. Literally. According to the New York Times, deckhands on a Staten Island ferry boat pulled Hannah Upp out of the New York Harbor shortly before noon. Upp was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where she is reportedly listed in stable condition.
It was a close call. According to a spokesman for the transportation department quoted in the Times article, the 23–year–old schoolteacher was ”almost completely incapacitated” and ”not responsive” when they pulled her out of the water.
....For family and friends of Hannah Upp, the 23–year–old New York City schoolteacher who’s been missing nearly two weeks, the question has been a straight javelin to the heart. ...Family and friends mobilized quickly. The tight–knit Bryn Mawr alum, who were g–chatting about Upp’s disappearance by Monday, set up blogs and drilled through social networks like MySpace and Facebook, scattering Upp’s picture and information across the country within hours....By all accounts, Upp is an optimistic soul....”People love to make saints of people when tragedies strike, but there is no exaggeration here,” says Kaitlin Menza, who shared a dorm hall with Upp at Bryn Mawr....On Sunday Sept. 7, the New York Post confirmed that Upp had gone ”AWOL” for three days last year and had received a ”slap on the wrist” from the principal of the school for not showing up.....Hughes says Upp often slipped ”under the radar” for a few days when she had a lot on her plate. But this time was different, Hughes says.

After Rescue, Missing Teacher Remains in Hospital
Thank goodness for the eagle eyes of Staten Island Ferry captain Christopher Covella. His and his crew's actions led to the rescue of 23-year-old Hannah Upp, a public school teacher missing since August 29.
Covella, who was bringing the ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island, said he noticed what looked like a head bobbing in upper New York Harbor and he got his binoculars for a better look. He maneuvered the boat as closer to her as possible and then deckhands Ephrain Washington and MIke Sabatino, in a rescue boat, approached her. They took her out of the water, and she "took a gasp of air" and started to cry...The authorities believe that Upp jumped from a pier in Staten Island and "that strong currents pulled her one mile out." Though she told authorities her name was "Hannah" and that her mother reported her missing, WNBC reports she has refused to speak to detectives.
Poor Hannah. I feel sorry for her. If it's true she disappeared on her own, I feel sorry for her that she felt that alone, and as in the case of the newly missing Lower Merion Man off his meds, what is wrong with our healthcare system that people like this have to struggle so much along with their families? These are the poor souls that John McCain and Barack Obama need to meet when they are talking about healthcare reform as well as finding affordable coverage for us regular folk.
I know someone like this who regularly goes missing. A lot of this person's "friends" have given up on them because of that. It's really sad to watch, because there is nothing in this country to really get those who suffer emotional and mental distress the kind of care they need. And often the only alternative is to so heavily medicate these folks that they become like zombies and that isn't right, either.

Mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction are unfortunatley like dirty little secrets.
No matter how enlightened our society has supposedly become, there is still a great stigma attached to these diseases where it is seen as a personal shortcoming or weakness as opposed to an affliction or disease.
The funny thing is that just about every extended family can name someone in their family who is mentally ill or addicted to something - yet it usually remains a secret.
People need to start realizing that mental illness and addictions are afflictions that have nothing to do with a person's character or will power, but are rather no different than any other disease - and in many ways worse because mental illness and addiction are often progressive diseases that can easily spiral out of control.
