Here is a redacted copy of the letter that disgraced former Township Manager Dave Bashore sent to Radnor's BOC. It is a whiny finger-pointing-anybody-but-me point by point response to the Commissioners detailed complaint against him (which is published immediately after Bashore's letter). The redacted material was apparently removed (not by me) over concerns that Bashore's allegations, assertions and baseless spin could be viewed as defamatory. I assume that he will be read his complete letter into the record at the BOC meeting this Monday at 6 PM.

Can't believe no one has commented. I read the letter and well I have to say, Bashore sure makes a bunch of commissioners who were around at the time look bad doesn't he? How did you get the letter? And yes, I heard the non-edited letter is really crazy and potentially defamatory statements?

I find it interesting when he talks about how he could have been terminated differently because couldn't he have also just (at the time) resigned without fanfare at year end or shortly thereafter when he saw how this was headed? On the other hand, another question I have is could the board have simply chosen to NOT renew his contract at the end of 2008?

And what of prior boards? Were they truly that lazy? Amazing. This lawyer Radnor has hired to handle this - is he just a fee churning hot dog?

But nevertheless, Bashore is entitled to spew back, but what I find interesting is that I do not see remorse, but only a justification that he was entitled to do this because others had looked the other way, or had done this before him? If he thought something was wrong or ran contrary to say state law, why didn't he suggest a NEW best practice to replace all these thing?

I notice he brings in the salaries, etc. of other township managers, including Lower Merion's Doug Cleland. Lower Merion did not give our manager a big check so he could live large in Lower Merion. And in Lower Merion, the vacation policy I have been told is "use it or lose it" and I also think that there may be a sick day bank where employees can log some of their sick days in case of a catostophic life event, but that is NOT the same as what Radnor has been doing. And at the end of the day with his self decreed bonuses, I think he could be WELL over what our township manager makes couldn't he?

And what good is reducing future outlays of $1,000,000 over 10 years and purported long term reduction of costs of $4,200,000 in personnel costs because of retirement incentives when the taxpayers of Radnor are looking at what? $3.2 million or whatever in unfunded vacationgate/compensationgate nonsense PLUS whatever this entire debacle will cost - potential litigation, multiple lawyers, interim solicitors and managers, and the money Bashore might get as a result of litigation and/or settlement? In the end what will the bottom line be?

Ok and other stuff like WHY does everyone who wants attention in Radnor claim they built the Radnor Trail or made it happen? Seriously and they say Al Gore claiming he invented the Internet was bad? And the Ardrossan thing? Where is that exactly? And will that be such a deal in the end? I am all for open space, but let's get real when it comes to Ardrossan because right now, moreso than anything else, a bad economy is keeping it preserved.

And as for other things - the student housing ordiance? Is it just an ordiancne or is it part of zoning? And Radnor's ordinance is only as good as it's enforcement, which sucks? And if Bashore is the architect of that, then is it he who thought it was such a fabulous idea to put citizens in bad positions by making them swear out affidavits when they had a complaint about student housing legal or illegal? What does that achieve other than providing an early warning system to slumlords so they get advance notice and can then retaliate against property owners?

And about those tax increases? How well is that working if the taxes next year were reported somewhere in the papers at one time to be potentially brutal?

And what about those perks documented in the media a few years ago? The take home cars and free gas for employees? What is that current list and expense total I wonder? Who still gets those?

And the Historic Preservation Ordinance? Is it just me or is that barely enforceable at times? I ask since that guy - what's his name - Loeper? Why did Loeper allow that realtor to take down a house on where was that? 215 West Wayne Avenue? Even if the house was truly beyond repair, how the heck would anyone know? In Lower Merion, even on an emergency basis, there probably would have been some public discussion of this at a meeting before anything was decided.

And the Wayne Overlay stuff? Does that have to do with that project no one wants over near the Library, Post Office and Saturday Club? Or does it have to do with that white elephant that had to be built Pembroke North?

Nit-picking aside, did he do all of this by himself? So them if there are abject failures within the bunch, he accepts responsibility for those as well as the successes?

And at the end of the document he brings his family into it? How awful for them.

The final thing? Why does this seem like the "Osborne Defense"? Seriously is this Osborne the root of all evil? That seems kind of silly to me and well what seems to be missing? Commissioners, right?

Anyway, it will be an entertaining meeting certainly. As in Jerry Springer entertaining.

bashore does full jerry springer

I guess the other part of the defense that isn't the "Osborne Defense" is blame the dead guy? As in Bob Crofford?

Man....

Oh man, that photoshop cracked me up. I so put it on the front page.

As much as the letter consists of whining, one thing I am curious about is this: why isn't Bashore allowed to copy his personal file from the township?

Also, I agree that he does have a right to a fact finder who is not an accuser. Now, is he merely trying to label anyone whois on the BOC as an "accuser"? I suppose that's possible. But I am concerned about the appearance of impropriety here.

This man should get his hearing. If he wants to shoot himself in the foot with his own words, that's his call. Sticking out tongue

I'm withholding comment until I see what Bashore has to say at the Monday meeting.

There is a lot of blame to go around here. Bashore was a big part of the problem, but there is, in my mind, more accountability needed in regards to other Radnor government types for there to be closure and for citizens of Radnor to regain trust in those who have the privilege to serve them.

Honestly, I chuckled a bit at Bashore's whining that he was denied access to information from the township that he felt legally entitled to.

Heck, join the club BIG BABY. I guess it must feel a little different standing on this side of the the gate. Get used to it. Fact is, It has never been, and still isn't easy to get timely access to documents from the township.

Currently much of the RTK material we've requested is being denied because it is considered substantive to an ongoing investigation. A close look at the RTK Law seems to suggest that claim is BS. Substantive to an ongoing whitewash might be a better fit.

If you read the letter, I don't think it is as simplistic as he wants access to his files is it? Isn't it more like he wanted to access his e-mail and computer. I think even in government, such things constitute "company owned" not private property. I mean maybe he should have requested specific things? Because to me it just seemed like he wanted general access and if he is suspended how would that work?

He is entitled to his day in the open and to voice his opinion, but I wonder, after he does that will he take the option of resigning offered by the board a few weeks ago now? After all he can't say right now he is not employable by their actions as he is still techinically employed, right? So if he takes the resignation, which probably comes with a package, and then can't find a job, can he come back later and sue Radnor?

And I agree with chips - these local municipalities are pure BS on RTK stuff.

Whatever, this response letter just adds to the Jerry Springer of it all....how much is this all costing Radnor taxpayers? Radnor seems like Noah's Ark right now with at least two of everything? Say now....that would make for a funny photoshop....
