We hardly ever see crime reports from Ardmore (or maybe we just don't notice them), but in this week's Main Line Life (www.mainlinelife.com , although not available online), we see two robbery incidents reported within a close proximity to each other on the same day. The newspapers glean their reporting from public records made available by law enforcement agencies. Please note, the intent here is not to alarm, but to make citizens aware and ask them to be vigilent and street smart because even in the best of communities, crimes do occur. That is why Neighborhood Watch is such a great thing in communities - actually, something the business association and business district authorities could do that would be mutually beneficial to all, is to create something (if they haven't)along the lines of a neighborhood watch or merchant buddy system in the business district. Incident number one occured across from the targeted businesses, i.e. the historic district, which is also in the shadow of the Township Administration Building. LMPD is reportedly investigating an armed robbery that occured at The All Natural Food Market in Ardmore 12/28/2005 at 6:30 p.m. A man with a gun demanded money. The report doesn't say if the robber got away with anything or not. The second incident is even more despicable. LMPD is investigating the assault and robbery of an 84 year old woman. This lady was apparently mugged at the intersection of Simpson Road and Athens Avenue in Ardmore on December 12/28/2005 at 8 p.m. Police report the poor lady had just gotten off a Septa bus. What creep would hurt an 84 year old woman? As with the aforementioned incident, the LMPD is investigating. Both incidents occured on the same day. Could they be connected? Who knows. All we know is this should not stop us from going about our daily lives, as people in more urban areas are subject to this type of crime every day even in the best of areas. People just need to be careful and use common sense until the folks responsible are apprehended. Perhaps the local newspapers should make their Police Blotters available online. That's all for now. |
