Best blog quote of the year thus far in my opinion is: "A fish rots from the head down." **All of this inspired by a pal who wrote:

I am not updating the post with this article only adding a comment, because I would not call it an article, and oh yes it's filed online under "South Jersey News", just where I would look for Radnor Township. I mean WTF Inquirer? Is it only if it bleeds it leads? What happened to coverage where we live? If it wasn't fo a new blog only discovered the other day called Philly Foibles, I would not have ever seen this "article".
Radnor lays off employees to cut costs
Really, Radnor should be all over the press, even for layoffs - after all the economy gives Radnor a nice out to get rid of problematic employees who would otherwise sue, right? So here is the Main Line Media News Coverage, and note where they say they are going to rent out part of the Taj Mahal, oh I mean Township Building...sayyyyyy, here's an idea, ya know how Lower Merion says they have to rebuild part of the PSB? Well why don't they just rent some space from Radnor - after all up there, Doug Cleland would never have to worry about his view being obstructed by a garage on Bernicker, right?
There is also an article about the search for a township manager in Main Line Suburban Life. So wonder where is Bashore headed? Wouldn't you think he would leave the area after all this?
Twelve Radnor Township employees were laid off on Friday and Monday because of budgetary reasons, the interim township manager said this week.
Eight full-time and four part-time employees, including two directors, were let go from the engineering, parks and recreation, finance, community-development and administration departments.
The layoffs are being accompanied by other expenditure reductions and changes in the township’s customer-service structure.
According to interim manager John Granger, the changes will save the township about $1 million in 2010 and the years immediately following.
But the reductions in payroll and other expenditures will only net the township about $280,000 this year because of the amount of money and benefits it has to pay out to the departing employees.
One employee had accrued about $100,000 in unpaid leave time, for example. And laid-off employees will receive benefits and pay they are entitled to under their respective employment agreements, plus four weeks of additional pay and one month of additional health coverage.
Only a couple of years ago the township constructed a 50,000-square foot, $11.6-million municipal building. Now, as part of a number of changes proposed by Granger, it will seek to rent out part of it — about two-thirds of the second floor — for a revenue source.
There are currently 71 employees, including about 45 in the police department, who work in that building.
Other changes proposed by Granger to the township’s Board of Commissioners, which approved the layoffs, include creating a customer-service area where citizens can conveniently interface for services in the parks and recreation, engineering, community development and police departments.....At the July 20 public Board of Commissioners meeting, Granger will present further proposed changes, he said.
Within six months Granger said that residents will experience better delivery of services than they did before. By a year’s time he predicts that citizens will no longer even have to come to the building to get licenses, permits and register children for township-run programs.
A year from now, Granger said, the way the township interacts with its citizens and runs its internal workings and efficiencies will likely be “drastically different” from how it does now....Granger would not provide the names of the laid-off employees but stated that assistant finance director Bill Martin will now be assistant township manager and planning manager Matt Baumann will now serve as the director of community development.
Wonder what Radnor will be doing about the boys of summa'? And who is that retired cop or top cop who retired up inn Maine around where Blake is?

"A fish rots from the head down."
Interesting notion; in the case of Radnor Township the organizational flow chart starts with the residents, then flows to the Board of Commissioners and finally to the Township Manger.
Yup, you are right, the metaphor correctly places responsibility, or in this case, blame where it belongs.
Silence= Consent.
Right you are Chip. The number of folks who do not vote in our local elections is an embarrasment. It is also very disappointing to see the meeting room nearly empty for the meetings of Boards and Commissions.
Hee hee! Carla, they make fine lobstahs (though Bashore and Malloy are really chowdah-heads) - but, to continue your metaphor, I won't be satisfied until they have all been thoroughly boiled, cracked, and have spilled their guts to the public.
Any truth to the rumor that John Rutty, the nice police superintendant is thinking of resigning or retiring?
Is it true 2 lobstahs got a one week suspension? Malloy and Blomstrom?
Is Dave interviewing "down east"?
Please note these are QUESTIONS. I am allowed to ask questions, yes?

Rumor has it that Rutty resigned 2 Fridays ago because there were about to be a bunch of "personel changes" made within the RTPD without his consultation. A group of the commissioners "spent the weekend" trying to get him to reconsider. I do not believe that he has actaully stopped working. I also believe that the acting Manager is currently away on Vacation. So I am guessing that the acting Manager was going to gut the force in the name of savings without Rutty's permission so Rutty quit. The commissioners have convinced Rutty to stay, but eh whole thing has not been resolved because the Manager is away. The Manager's absence may explain the relative calm in the storm right now in Radnor. Watch for an investigation of the pension plan and how the investment manager was selected. Watching for the termination of the "Lobstahs" (One may have already been let go) Thats as much hearsay as I know.
Wasn't Loeper a Lobstah? Just checked the township directory - no otha' lobstahs' missing yet, eh?
