In the end it did not matter. The decision was already decreed. Bruce Reed never opened his mouth. After all what could he say? That everyone was right? We were.

Teri Simon not being reappointed is a LOSS for Lower Merion. It is to be Laura Shell, Charlie Howland and Brian O'Leary. As predicted and pre-ordained in that back room meeting that didn't happen last week.

Here were my notes:

Perry Hamilton spoke eloquently about Teri Simons for planning commission. Teri is his polar opposite politically (his words) and he still wants her here.

Leigh Anne Smith spoke eloquently about the issues, including last week’s meeting. She is for Teri Simon too, and spoke nicely about Eileen Trainer whom I really like as well. Leigh Anne spoke about the oddness of the planning commission and the appointment process this year.

Audrey Romasco gave an outstanding speech. She is also for Teri Simon and the other incumbents.

Roz Nathanson from Wynnewood can’t get her arms around the concept of not reappointing. Why she said she asked herself. She feels Teri and the incumbents can serve the best as well and Roz says this makes no sense – people with no experience, not familiar with PA Law should not be chosen at this time. She demands an explanation from the commissioners as to why (like we don’t know the answer). Roz challenged them on Liz Rogan’s statement that no decisions had been made, yet we know decisions have been made long before we got here.

Liz Rogan is stumbling now at 8:56 pm. Jenny is quizzing her as is Lew and Phil is challenging her as well. Andy Meyers is getting ready to speak

Andy Meyers looks terrific in his suit and power tie. Andy said he believes these commissioners HAVE made their decisions. Andy is challenging Bruce Reed on Unified Slate and wants him to deny this is political payback to Teri. Bruce just sat like a glaring stump

Ross Rider wants to know if they take issue with comments made by Rosensweig and Brown. Taylor jumping to defense and getting salty. Mark Taylor admits proper notice wasn’t given. One rhetorical question from Ross Rider – what are they doing in the name of open government

Marlene Linkmeyer from Penn Wynne reading a note from someone else championing Teri Simons. Comments on Teri’s excellent work ethic. Teri is a professional, loves Lower Merion, etc. It would be a loss to Lower Merion if she stepped down – letter was from Sarah Slattery

Oh here we go John Maille. Contrary Mary. He’s calling out to TV land. John, you are missing the point..as usual. And that is all the air time you get.

AJ Kate from Gladwyne came up with disclaimers – looking for good governance and transparency. No dog in the race is what he says, and he feels there is a back door deal, hidden agenda and something which smells. He demands an explanation too. What is hidden agenda?

Al Maguire from Bryn Mawr. Interested that someone who would come to only one meeting would be preferable over more experience and nuanced understanding of township and township ordinances. Doesn’t want “on the job training”

Carl Watson from Shortridge. Supporting incumbents and addressed two new commissioners Lindner and Churchill – suggested they open their ears and listen to the public and not just vote the way leadership tells them. Carl agrees that Planning Commission isn’t time for “on the job training”. He is speaking against Jim Stevenson because he says his job with his developer gives him a clear conflict of interest and it would be an inappropriate precedent. Carl also spoke against back room dealings and how this must make members of other Lower Merion Boards feel.
Charlie someone from Gladwyne got up and described himself as a pragmatist. He spoke of the lunacy of the board of commissioners. He was a terrific speaker. Spoke about Liz Rogan pontificating pabulum LOL. Ouch then he rode the anti-Obama train. Honestly, heartfelt comments are terrific but he wasn’t quite on topic. He did make Bruce Reed sputter when he mentioned back room dealings. He asked Liz Rogan why she had back room secret meetings – immature, dishonorable, and devious. He spoke to honor. He said Lower Merion commissioners have lost their honor.

Brian Maguire of somewhere – Princeton Road? Anyway he spoke of rancor and intrigue and like an ostrich with a head in the sand, doesn’t get it and lives in fairy tale land. Doesn’t believe decisions are made behind closed doors.

Mr. Greenberg Latches Lane Merion. Commented on the board reorg and knew in January when the seating was re-arranged he knew what was up. He spoke in favor of Teri Simons – very highly about her competence and fairness, etc. Teri has an independent voice on the planning commission. Spoke to Teri’s concerns for neighborhoods.

Now the board gets ready to go nuts. Bruce complained he had his hand up. He is lying through his teeth about the planning commission reappointments. LYING. He can puff it up with flowery Bruce words, but he is lying and he KNOWS it. Bruce we know about conspiracy theories because we live it live with you. You are correct you often don't get it right, but it's not so benign. Now Bruce is going off topic about some rooster like personal outrage.

Oh lookee Jane Dellheim is speaking. Another superior performance of blithering idiocy.

Oh now we get commissioner Taylor. Sticking up for the bone headed decisions for last week. He supported tabling matter for a week. “ Trying to rectify” – Also denies back room deals

Phil Rosenzweig – clarified his comments from the re-org meeting. That there was no deliberative debate or process – everything was pre-determined ahead of time, pre-counted votes. He says this evening is no different. He commented to Dellheim how curious he was about her sudden zest for rules since they haven’t been following them. Commented that zoning hearing board members were reappointed without any of this crap. And Bob Gray was also reappointed without an interview process to planning commission- without hoopla. He says when it doesn’t suit the majority of the board it’s all of a sudden time to do things differently – alluded to Bruce Reed’s king making. Spoke about lack of notice. Also opined on back room discussions. He said Ms. Shell has experience, but not now, a natural expiration – not a politically charged reappointment. He kind of said between the lines – she shouldn’t want to take a conflicted spot. Phil is for good governance and says it is imperative to reappoint all three incumbents. And if BOC can’t support good incumbents they should explain why.

Oh here comes Jane Dellheim righteously indignant wanting to interrupt. Crowd is cheering. Jane is throwing a temper tantrum. Liz Rogan is mediating.

Cheryl Gelber spoke to hypocrisy of the board. Trying to get rid of incumbents and rules have changed 4 times in 3 months. Arguments, failed arguments and BS. Says the whole change of procedure has been done as a basis for creating a rejection of one of the candidates from day 1. She’s talking about Teri. Teri is being spoken of in glowing terms – talking about a letter from Planning commission new leadership asking for reappointment of existing incumbents – ALL of them. Doesn’t want to rock the boat , says we shouldn’t rock the boat. Said last week’s meeting was questionable because only 6 commissioners listened to interviews but 10 commissioners showed up to vote. She supports Teri Simon and the rest of the incumbents. Says Teri is a paragon – and she is.

Teri has just been nominated by Jenny Brown and seconded by Brian Gordon and 3rd by I don’t know who else.

Jenny Brown also spoke to the lack of notice to the public and the process and corrected Jane Dellheim’s selective memory.

She said unless there is just cause, Teri should be reappointed. She echoed Perry Hamilton’s statement earlier. Teri has character and conscience and dedication. Teri Simon brings together people from both political parties and independents. She said the “ policy” was conveniently resurrected to kick Teri off the Planning Commission

Lew Gould is speaking. Feels the facts have not been true or open and that the majority of this board has already made a decision and continuing to behave badly. He believes we should appoint and reappoint the very best. He is being positive about Teri, and says he learned many new wonderful things about her this evening. Describes her as an incomparable and eligible for reappointment having served with distinction and dedication. He said Teri should be reappointed, but he believes the majority of the board will act badly, even though 4 years ago it was Liz Rogan who nominated her and she was unanimously appointed. Lew alludes to nasty mean spirited attack led by Bruce Reed (YOU GO LEW!) – and why is she being attacked? He alludes to the rumors that Teri crossed swords with Bruce Reed and Bruce swore vengeance and off with her head. He comments about Bruce Reed’s anger and tyranny makes everyone lose. Lew is challenging the Bruce on the throne to do better. Let’s see. Lew throws his full hat in for Teri.

Now comes Brian Gordon – talking about Lower Merion Alice in Wonderland politics. Say Brian, let’s see, where ever did you get that idea? But here we go, Brian Gordon is defending Bruce Reed? Something about political virgins? And he says there is no back room dealings going on? Brian says all 3 existing planning committee members should be reappointed that they shouldn’t feel political pressures and we need the experienced best.

Brian is honoring his commitment to Teri Simon and is speaking glowingly of her, so Brian while I think you dance with the dark side more than you should on occasion, I thank you for being the person of honor I know you to be. “Teri gets it”. THAT says it all. He asks all commissioners to vote for Teri. Teri is outspoken yes, Brian, but that is why we love and respect her. She is nobody’s patsy.

Liz Rogan wants to call the question of Teri.

Phil Rosenzweig speaks glowingly about her. Even though he knows they will never agree on much. He points out all the people who have come to speak tonight and last week for Teri. Reminds board how personal and politics shouldn’t interfere with obligation to appoint people on the board who are the best.
He sees this vote on Teri as being so important and about doing right in general.

Scott Zelov is speaking. He said closed meeting was wrong which is why he got up and left. Spoke to reappointing Teri and all incumbents.

Here comes Commissioner Taylor with his big bag of wind. Sticking up for The Bruce’s honor and talking about Lew Gould’s “diatribe”. Oh lordy, Mark Taylor is just plain insulting Lew Gould calling him highly inappropriate. I can’t decide if he is doing damnation by faint praise on Teri. But he’s flipping out on disparaging comments about Bruce Reed and him and others – calling them totally “unfounded” – but are they Mark? Too many people from too many worlds all say the same thing. He is all moral outrage about the suggestion that the BOC Democrats do Bruce’s bidding. Mark Taylor said the public is stupid. But he isn’t saying he will support Teri – only that she is nice. And oh yes, Teri helped her with his campaign (he won by what? One vote or two? Hmmm, tick tock – what will happen next time)

Paul McElHaney admitted that Teri helped her with his campaign. Says people should be judged on merit. So let’s see how baby votes. Oh here we go. Good boy Paul, you were schooled well.

George Manos was bowel moved apparently by Mark Taylor’s speech. Oh here we go, claims whatever he supposedly said about Teri to others was disturbing and lies – disturbed that someone would color comments that he said? OK Manos, this one escaped even my radar, so what did you say because me thinks Mr. Burns doth protesteth too much. I think we know how George will vote. And George, you have had loose lips in other areas, so none of this surprised me. What is a disgrace are these commissioners.

Oh here comes Ms. Blockbuster Liz Rogan’s commentary as formerly paid staff now commissioner and she knows all – hey Liz – Blockbuster is closing and I am finding your comments as backwards as that building on Lancaster. If you want what the community wants then you will vote for Teri, but I hear more damnation by faint praise. Bruce Reed has been silent. But what can he say? That he caused this? Damn, that would be the truth.

Liz Rogan is doing a tap dance. What crap she is spouting. BS Liz your nose is growing.

Oh now Steve Lindner is speaking? About Ardmore? Speechifying again. What pomposity . He is endorsing Jim Stevenson? My my what strange bedfellows. What does Steve Lindner know about the business district? Can he see it from his front porch? Lindner wants ideas? We want commissioners who aren’t lazy. What doesn’t Lindner get about conflict of interest? Steve Lindner is lazy, which is why he wants ideas - if he can use yours all the better. Lindner makes very little sense when he finally opens his mouth.

Roz Nathenson just came back to blast the commissioners over Teri Simon - and she went right after Steve Lindner and the rest of them. Bravo Roz. And Hugh Gordon you also deserve a standing ovation. And Bruce Reed was horribly rude to Hugh Gordon - he spoke about making up rules as the board goes along how true and he poke the Manos too - and called Taylor on the carpet. He like Roz said they should have explained themselves and he said he is ashamed of Democrats on the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners.

As Roz Nathanson pointed out, the majority gave no explanation why Teri Simon was unqualified to be reappointed as had been the practice sine 1974 when any incumbent who asked to be re-appointed was.

No reason was given why either Jim Stevenson or Laura Shell (sp?) would do a better job than Teri. All admitted that zoning and planning required experience. And it seems that Jim Stevenson had some obvious conflicts of interest.

Although I disagree with Teri on policy issues, she has always been upbeat, respectful and open to me.

The reason for refusing to re-appoint her seem to have nothing to do with her performance on Planning Commission and everyone seems to think she does a very good job. Without an explanation, it is only to be expected that there will be speculation that there were "nefarious" motives which Comm. Manos could have avoided by explicitly stating his reason for a no vote.

Nine LMBOC are signing a letter explaining their view of Sunshine Law and pre-board, behind closed door meetings, which the ever accommodating Solicitor Gil High condones, Cheryl Gelber was not invited to sign.

Know what I want to know about Steven Lindner? WTF is a "Reuters Insight Subject Matter Expert"? It appears nowhere else on the web, except for his website (and a site that slurps peoples' profiles):

Seriously. What is it? Even Reuters themselves apparently doesn't have that string on their website, which makes me wonder if he just made that term up and decided to latch onto the name Reuters?

Don't even get me started on the mystery of "The Ardmore Political Club"...

Pardon the further off topic, but what does "site slurps people's profiles" mean?

WOW I just went on the LindnerLLC website and I am dizzy!! I cannot make head or tail of what it is trying to tell me about what that company does. "Identifies" stimulus money? "Teaming partner of winning bid?" I have NO clue what they do over there. They need a better content author over there pronto.

Bingo LexoTime5 - you just got to the heart of Steve Lindner - he makes no sense. Like him backing Jim Stevenson for Planning Commission and saying there wouldn't be a conflict. He's with Federal Realty Investment Trust which owns I believe the Wynnewood Shopping Center and Bala Cynwyd Shopping Centers - which if you live in that part of the township you know these shopping centers often mean many issues for the neighbors, in Wynnewood especially.

And the other thing is this about Lindner - take neighborhoods in his ward with issues for example. Some of the neighbors have asked him for help. Only he has done nothing except parrot a few phrases he must have gotten out of "Commissioners For Dummies. If he replies that is.

Pardon the further off topic, but what does "site slurps people's profiles" mean?

There are numerous sites out which run web crawlers (programs that download webpages) and try to identify factual data about people, such as where they work/have worked, who they work with, etc. They then try to market those services to people who need an "in" with specific companies, such as job seekers, job recruiters, salespeople, etc.

In my experience, they're right about half the time. For example, the site Zoominfo.com says that I still work for the Symantec Corporation. (I haven't for 4+ years)

Ahhh...he is a lobbyist LOL - if you look at his facebook page he works for AARP and you look at his friends page and it becomes even more abundantly clear. LOL if he is a friend of Bruce Reed's just 'fess up and move on - that's cool - but as with all the other Reedites if you are NOT drinking the koolaid they are drinking, you are dismissed as worthless peasant LOL...

I hear there were 96 people in the audience and about a dozen were for the library...and that doesn't count the LMPD officer there for "the holligans"

The cop was a lieutenant who was there in lieu of McGrath, so there was no police presence out of the ordinary. I did not stay for the Police Committee, but I assume that was what the lieutenant was there for.

The library people came out in force.

My mother is on the Ludington board and said she was going to watch at home, but when she saw me speak on the Planning Commission she came out, spoke about the libraries and left.

Needless to say, she thought the whole Planning Commission thing was disgraceful.

My mother is a self-professed and proud liberal Democrat. She is a very intelligent and very highly educated person. She truly fits the definition of an intellectual, but also while having social graces and political savvy. She is the Secretary and a Director of the American Academy of Political and Social Science as well as the Senior Fellow at the Templeton Foundation, amongst a myriad of other activities she is involved in. She saw right through what the Democratic majority was up to and was not pleased.

The fact that Bruce Reed and Mark Taylor could care less about what Democrats of my mother's background and political views (that include good government) in Lower Merion think tells you how far the LM BOC under the "leadership" of these two bozos has fallen into disrepute.

We in "TV-land" who watched the political charade on 3/17 were subjected to a transparent, inept attempt to legitimize the cheap back room deal to dump Teri Simon illegally hatched the month before. I will admit I formerly admired Reed, et al. but this episode revealed him and his cohorts as petty, pretentious closed-minded prevaricators who are more interested in "winning" than doing the right thing.

Ohhhh....I get it now - we aren't supposed to pay attention to what other commissioners, only our own? Wish it were that simple except mine is part of the Evil Club of Trouble. So below is my response to him, but I am sure I will be "punished" for it:
