Folks, if you have never met and spoken with the LMVUE folks take this opportunity to do so. Now maybe it's not as glam as hanging at the Guardhouse Bar Plotting Liberally, but the people are all well worth getting to know.

Now maybe it's not as glam as hanging at the Guardhouse Bar Plotting Liberally,

Wow. Is that what goes on at the Guard House Bar these days? My how Gladwyne has changed within my brief lifetime.

When we moved from Merion to Gladwyne in 1957, Gladwyne was a laid-back, unpretentious little village where Volkwagen Beetles outnumbered Cadillacs by a wide margin. In fact, few Gladwynites owned a Cadillac as the average person would look askance at such a display with the unspoken question "Who is he/she trying to impress?"

The first major touchstone in the decline of Gladwyne into what it has become, was the replacement of a wooded lot on Youngsford with an A&P supermarket. Not so much that the lot was developed; people recognized that as progress and many welcomed the convenience of not having to travel to Bryn Mawr or Ardmore to do their food shopping.

No, it was more a matter of the people who were drawn from the East by the A&P. Many of them found they liked the 'countrified' atmosphere of Gladwyne and stayed, though none understood the underlying dynamics of the place. So soon we began to see the vulgar displays of wealth that eventually became dominant there; the touchstone of that being the now-defunct Gladwyne Concierge. And though the Concierge is gone, the mentality remains to the extent that Gladwyne is now Gladwyne in name only.

So though these folks chant the mantra of diversity, and to a person, would irately proclaim that they abhor discrimination, and lately inEquality, I highly doubt that you'll find any of them showing up to help the LMVUE folks. As we've been shown so many times, their needs have been met in the redistricting by their cronies on the School Board, and that being the long and short of it for them, they proclaim themselves staunchly in support of the District.
