Want the facts without bias? A team of trained journalists covering every government meeting, every school board hearing and keeping the community abreast of local events? Check out Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch. A brand new online newspaper launching Sept. 10, 2010 in Ardmore.
Patch.com, owned and funded by AOL, supports community journalism on a "hyperlocal" level. Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch will cover all of the goings on in its three namesake communities, and will be updated multiple times every day with breaking news and information. |

And the site is now live (as of 10:55 a.m.)! Check it out: Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch.
Great! I went ahead and popped this article up on the front page.
And it also gets one of these:

Nathan,
Welcome! Do you now live locally? I am confused because I looked online and saw:
So have you moved here from NJ? If so, how do you like it? That would be fun to learn about! So patch is an AOL venture? Are you going to cover Wayne/Radnor eventually? One thing. In your post you said

We have wonderful local papers under the Main Line Media News banner. While it is fair to say that local bloggers might show bias when covering local news and events, I do not necesarily believe it is fair to paint that broad brush on our local papers, who also have a web presence. Here are a few stories you have up I found of interest:
I hope you will similarly cover First Friday Main Line, and I can help you with that if you would like information.
I will say (showing my bias because I think they are gross), that Ardmore has much better restaurants to cover then Fellini Cafe and a new one coming - for example a friend and her little boy stopped to eat at Fellini Cafe during First Friday Main Line and towards the end of their meal they looked up and saw a roach crawling up the wall near them and another table. Showing bias again, that is just sort of ewww.
Welcome to the fray!
Oh, I'm also syndicating headlines from the Patch in the footer of this site now. Top of the right-hand column.
Thanks! I live down Lancaster Avenue in Powelton Village, but usually spend all day in Ardmore working out of coffee shops and covering stories. And no disrespect meant to the Main Line Media News (or any other news organization). They do an excellent job reporting on the community and larger area.
Ok cool. Powelton Village? How do you like it? That was the site of the infamous MOVE fire.
Any thoughts on moving to Ardmore? Are you going to Clover Market Sunday? (It is REALLY FUN by the way)
Have you been to Hu Nan Restaurant, Suburban Office Equipment, The Pennywise, Past*Present*Future (store of First Friday Main Line Executive Director Sherry Tillman BTW), or the Ardmore Initiative?
Also, check out Harry's Treasures when he's back from fishing
No, the bombing of the MOVE house destroyed a block of Osage Avenue. It wasn't near Powelton Village.
hmmm....why did I associate MOVE with Powelton? I just did some Googling and so maybe I am not totally wrong here?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOVE
Powelton is where MOVE had it's first confrontation with the City of Philadelphia and where they murdered police officer James J Ramp. Happened in 1978.
I wonder if you can include Bala Cynwyd in your patch? Or extend it to include all of Lower Merion Twp?
I though "Stand Up Lower Merion" was the blog of record in Bala Cynwyd.

A little friendly competition never hurt!
I've been getting this question a lot (as well as why the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood combination). Patch is all about focusing on reporting in communities in great detail, covering the things that sometimes get missed by larger publications. Lower Merion Township is a bit bigger of a coverage area than we would normally have under that philosophy.
The good news is that Patch has plans to expand to 500 sites by the end of the year (currently at about 150 and growing fast), and the plan is to fill out the Mail Line area with other Patch sites in the coming months. A little off the beaten path for Ardmore residents, Roxborough-Manayunk Patch also launched today, and there will be more to come.
Stay tuned!
It looks to me that patch.com is a national company. http://www.patch.com/ Mind telling us a bit about how it works? It looks a lot like a business association website. Do the businesses pay to place their own articles? Not implying anything at all, I'm just interested to know!
so will Bala Cynwyd get its own patch then? Just my opinion, but Bala Cynwyd is right next to Merion, and most of the issues and concerns that affect Merion affect Bala Cynwyd too.
Patch.com is owned and funded by AOL. Patch runs community news websites that editorially, function the same as print newspapers. It is not a business association site, and all articles are written and produced by journalists following standard journalism guidelines (businesses cannot purchase articles or coverage, etc).
Patch is for-profit, and makes money based on advertisements from local businesses as well as national chains advertising across all Patch sites.
I don't know about the specifics of where each site will be, but I do know that Bala Cynwyd will eventually be covered in a future Patch, and any information that is relevant to Bala Cynwyd residents (even if it happens in Merion) would be published on that site.
Thanks for all of the questions. I appreciate the feedback and hope to meet many of you while I'm out covering stories (stop me and say hi!).

Thanks for posting. I signed up on the site to receive future announcements. Feel free to make any future announcements here.
