Booker, Zajac and Madden are known elements.  Lisa Borowski strikes me as someone that would be an disaster on RTSB. Howard Gartland sounds interesting and might be just what the board needs to shake it up a bit.

I agree, Lisa Borowski seems too honest and believes the taxpayer trust the school board.   Booker and Madden are known elements, say they are republicans, but have wasted more taxpayers money than anyone in Radnor.  They should get pink slips.

It is hard to see why Radnor voters would vote for any incumbent RTSB members. They have to make the case why they should be reelected and that is going to be very hard case to make to anyone who has been paying attention.

Promises made, promises kept? Hardly...

Chip: Check out my earlier blog about Steve Modell. He's my first pick. Haven't really made up
my mind on the other candidates.

why do radnor candidates insist on using the radnor league of women voters for debates? tradition, i am sure, but its just so poor on so many levels.

i guess i will give some rankings and grades from best to worst for the non-incumbents (i aint wasting my time with the people already on the board like zajac and madden), and i have to say, i was more impressed with the newbie republicans than the newbie democrats.

howard gartland - grade: a-. i have never met howard, who ran two years ago as a last minute replacement, but i liked him then, and i like him better now. he seems smart and focused. it probably wont be easy for the administration to push him around which will provide needed balance to the sheep currently on the board that just follow whatever the administration wants ($pend, $pend, $pend).

steve modell -- grade: b-. modell was a lot better in this forum than he was in the interview thats on another s.a.c. thread. he has knowledge of pensions and benefits, so maybe he will actually understand financial matters, unlike a lot of board members who come across as babes in the woods. plus, john haines likes him, and that matters a lot to me.

kimm dougherty - grade: c. didnt seem knowledgeable. didnt seem offensive. any different than any of the incumbent democrats or republicans on the radnor school board? i think not. sort of a snoozer.

shelia palmer - grade: c-. dour and sour. smile for the camera! sort of the same background as modell, but didnt come accross as well. when you have kids in every level of public school in radnor, it makes people who dont have kids in the schools (seniors, younger singles and couples, families who send kids to private school) nervous that youre going to automatically spend their tax dollars to enrich your own offspring. also, shelia has got to cut down on the arm scratching/massaging and chair twisting - if shes got an itch, she needs to excuse herself, and take care of it off camera.

eric boudin - grade: d. oh boy. oh me. oh my. who in the radnor democratic committee picked this guy? probably the same group that gave us such intellectual giants as john nagle, brucie rapoport, elaine paul schaefer, and jim 'little higgy' higgins. hell, boudin might be the male equivalent of elaine paul schaefer - squeaky, unspecific, and clearly unprepared.

lisa borowski - grade: f. ay yi yi. borowski came across as clueless (more of a doofus than her slatemate boudin), and seemed more eager to spend than eager to please. borowski will be dominated by the administration if she gets on to the board, and will vote to spend taxdollars like crazy. bank on it. be. very. afraid.

janie partridge - grade: wildcard. seems smart, seems experienced, but she is a radnor resident running for radnor school board while at the same time being a second grade teacher right next door in lower merion (her linkedin account has her as currently being a public school teacher at woodlynde). i have no idea how this could play out in collective bargaining agreements, strikes (sympathy strikes?), etc., especially because radnor teacher salaries often get compared to lower merion teacher salaries.

this sandwich hopes all of the candidates (even borowski and boudin) use another forum for another debate during the general election season. the radnor league of women voters really stunk up the joint with this one.

I agree with your grades.

Eric B. and Lisa B. were CLEARLY the worst of the lot. Their presence almost makes me want to see perennial Democratic school board candidate Doug 'Mr. Magoo' Blazey come back for another try!

Also, you're dead-on when it comes to Janie Partridge. If she's going to stay in the race, she has to talk about how she is going to reconcile the fact that her role as a Radnor School Board director might be in conflict with her active involvement in a neighboring school district teacher's union (I'm presuming, of course, that she is in the union). Sandwich is right - teachers constantly compare their salaries to that of the neighboring school districts, and that is especially true when it comes to Radnor and Lower Merion.
