What happens in Democratic Philadelphia is happening in Lower Merion.

What happens in Philadelphia directly impacts Lower Merion and Montgomery County.

Righteous Democrat Brett Mandel describes how Philadelphia’s bankruptcy is masked by accounting assumptions. Brett Mandel is one of the most knowledgeable analysts of Philadelphia government’s finances and, certainly, the most honest and reliable. http://www.brettmandel.com/content/fiscal-oversight-board-should-reject-city-financial-plan

In my view, the continuing decline of Democratic Philadelphia is the reason so many Democrats are moving to Lower Merion bringing with them the same ideas that bankrupted Philadelphia.

Democratic Lower Merion Township Debt and Democratic Lower Merion School District Debt are at historic highs. Lower Merion Township Taxes and Lower Merion School District Taxes are at historic highs.

Democratic Lower Merion Township Spending and Democratic Lower Merion School District Spending are at historic highs.

Democrats Joe Hoeffel and Joe Hoeffel Ally Jim Matthews increased Montgomery County Debt to a historic high while violating the Sunshine Law.

After 8 years of Democratic Governor Pennsylvania Commonwealth Debt is at a historic high. Governor Corbett’s budget is the first time in forty years that there has been a year to year reduction in spending. Every Democratic legislator objects to Governor Corbett’s budget because it did not spend enough and did not tax enough.

I'm having a 1984 moment... Isn't the Montgomery County commissioners majority Republican ? How can you tar one party with the accumulation of county debt when it's under control of the other party?

Jim Matthews allied himself with Democrat Joe Hoeffel and voted with Joe Hoeffel. RINO Republican in name only or DIABLO  Democrat in all but label. Jim Matthews is despised by Republicans across the spectrum. Jim Matthews advanced a Democratic agenda.

See, the basic problem with your argument is pesky facts. Jim Matthews is a Republican, so by definition whatever he does is done by a Republican. Montgomery County has been run by Republicans for I don't know how long, so whatever the state of the county and the finances is at their feet. All the "because I said so" arguments in the world won't change that.

Simple minded analysis, Lexo. Jim Matthews advanced the Hoeffel agenda in return for which Joe Hoeffel voted him to be Chair. This is well known and uncontested. County debt is at historic high. County workers are unionizing which means the taxpayer will be hammered even more. This was not a Republican agenda.

The terms of your bizarre debate seem to be that you get to define what a "Democrat" and a "Republican" agenda are. When we're watching a Phillies-Mets game and the Phillies are down, we don't get to reassign who's really on what team.

Your main beef seems to be against debt and spending, which is a respectable argument. Unfortunately for Republicans of the last 40 years, the accumulation of debt and spending has been overwhelmingly on Republicans watch. We really only hear the "fiscally conservative" arguments when it comes time to pay the bills and the wealthy don't want to kick in.

One has to look below surface appearances to understand the real world. The alternative is live in a world of illusion. Jim Matthews calls himself a Republican but voted consistently and openly with very Liberal Democrat Joe Hoeffel. This is well known.

Debt has skyrocketed in last three years by 40% and no Democrat ever voted against Republican Establishment profligacy.

In 2006, the Republican candidates lost because Republican under GW Bush and Sen. Santorum has damaged the brand. Look at the Republican voter, not the Republican Establishment. The Tea Party Club for Growth Republicans are the core of the party holding the line against more dollar devaluing debt.

In Lower Merion Debt and Spending have now reached historic and unaffordable and unnecessary highs.

At the Democratically controlled School District Debt and Spending have reached same historic and unaffordable, as well as unnecessary, highs.

At State level, 8 years of Democratic Ed Rendell has had the same effect. Candidate for County Commissioner Josh Shapiro voted for Ed Rendell's Debt and Spending creating Deficits in the Billions.

Democrats Can't Be Trusted with Money.
