I guess I’m a roll with hot potato subjects.

We have to take care of retired people, after all (and I am certainly involved with helping out elderly relatives).

In the past I have complained about the commissioners who are lawyers and in real estate related fields, and how their work as commissioners financially benefits them.

Sure, when architect George Manos just voted for the massive new zoning plan in his Bala Cynwyd ward, I doubt he received any monetary benefit that would be a conflict of interest (I certainly hope he did not), but no doubt the developers and real estate types who will benefit in a major fashion from the new zoning will remember him when they or their friends need an architect down the road for other projects they will work on.

The other Bala Cynwyd commissioner who voted for this very controversial zoning that was not supported by very many constituents nor their own civic association was C. Brian McGuire – formally known as Brian McGuire before he become a commissioner, replacing his mentor The Right Honorable Magnificence of Nobles Bruce Reed, who quit in shameful manner and was replaced by the big C.

Well, is it not a fact that C. has worked as a lobbyist for the AARP and is still employed by them in some fashion?

This YouTube where John Stossel gets into Medicare and its $34 trillion shortfall tells me all I need to know about where C.’s loyalties are as an AARP lobbyist – and that is getting everything he can from government for the benefit of his special interest group at the expense of others.

Sure, the AARP does some good stuff, but this Stossel piece does not paint a pretty picture, and remember – McGuire has been a paid lobbyist for them.

I support the concept of Medicare, but I say it is far past time for a financial means-based testing for Medicare recipients, and no doubt McGuire has and probably will continue to work against that.

Seems Philly.com picked up on this blog post.

I blind copy a lot of reporters not only on emails I send to government agents in Lower Merion and Norristown, but I also provide them with links to SAC blog posts.

I did not do it with this particular blog post, but it is nice to see Philly.com being on top of local blog news and their feeds, and I highly recommend Philly.com as an everyday news source.

If the link is no longer there, screen shots below.

Philly.com does a great job spreading important local news from blogs to their massive readership base.

First you click on “Neighbors: Main Line news” at the top of the Philly.com page:

And it then takes you to “Neighbors Main Line” for the entire Philly region to read about the goings on in our area:
