In 2011 there was a post I put up about local connections to the pedophile priest scandal in Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Today the one from Lower Merion is being reported as pleading guilty sexually molesting a young altar boy. Edward V. Avery. HA! For years, some foks in my neighborhood, myself included tended to give him wide berth. He just made a lot of us uncomfortable. His deceased brother too.

And in 2009, this man had the chutzpah to tell me at a political event for one of his then tenants that he was being judged unfairly? Really? He literally sat there drinking a beer and crying. I always thought he chose me as his audience because I lived in his neighborhood and had not be quiet with my disgust alone at him still allowing people to refer to him as a priest after he was defrocked.

I remember at the time thinking the ex-priest doth protesteth too much.

Wow.

And think he really is a problem and he has been living in our midst all these years. And owning an apartment building called the Berkley Arms which he has reportedly sold only I do not see it yet all shook out on Montco property records?

Archdiocese of Philadelphia, where is your accountability? You want us all to be good Catholics, yet were mute for years and just kept putting these screwed up people back into various communities? God don't like ugly, and what the Archdiocese has allowed is ugly.

Defrocked priest pleads guilty to abusing altar boy

A defrocked Philadelphia priest pleaded guilty to sexually molesting a young altar boy today, suprising a Philadelphia courtroom four days before he was to go on trial with two current priests.
Edward Avery, 69, was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years immediately after pleading guilty to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and conspiracy to endanger children.

He was charged with sexually abusing a fifth-grade altar boy in the sacristy after Mass in 1999 at St. Jerome's in Northeast Philadelphia.

Asked by Common Pleas Court Judge M. Teresa Sarmina why he was pleading, he said: "It is something I have discussed and decided to do."

He declined to explain his actions further.

Prosecutors and Avery's lawyer, John Donohue, declined to comment, citing a gag order in the case.

Avery was a codefendant of Msgr. William J. Lynn, the church official charged with endangering children by allegedly failing to properly respond to abuse allegations.

The other defendant is the Rev. James Brennan, also charged with molesting a boy.

So this guy has pled. Do innocent men plead or men who know this is going to keep on coming? And the Catholic Church left this person to be in a neighborhoood full of small children for years let alone his then own apartment building?
