Bloomingdale Avenue Issue Not Dead Yet

Well it seems all residents in Radnor are not throwing in the towel over the proposed demolition of Bloomingdale Ave homes. This developer is finding out the hard way that not all neighbors are willing to say good-bye to their neighborhood the way they like it in the name of progress. One of the problems, however, is that Radnor's HARB while well intended is in truth rather vague in places, which leaves too much pro and con open to interpretation. I do hope however, that the neighbors, in the end prevail.

ChaChing...That is The Sound of Radnor Twp. Sch. District Spending MORE Taxpayer $$$$

So, Radnor Township School District continues it's wanton and wasteful ways, eh? Judy Sherry must be proved wrong at ALL COSTS? That Sunshine Laws are for OTHER school districts? That taxpayers are supposed to just keep allowing money to be spent like this? Interesting.

Speaking of school districts, rumors abound about the problems with Lower Merion Township School Districts Redistricting project. One thing being bandied about is the fact that some concerned parents have asked to meet with school district representatives over issues they see as important: like the psychological impact redistricting may have on certain kids, because not all children have the same resiliancy? Why haven't Lower Merion School district folks gotten back to parents on these issues?

See there's the rub: taxpayers pay for these schools and all the decisions good bad or indifferent yet no one seems to have control. Are we as taxpayers supposed to just swallow whole the pablum local school districts shove at us constantly? And ultimately? Our children pay the price for adult decisions that are often just plain stupid. School districts and school boards should have a higher degree of accountability.

Radnor: Right to Know decision rife with errors
School district asks Delco judge to reconsider recent ruling
By Sam Strike

Radnor Township School District officials are asking the judge who recently ruled against them in a Right to Know case to reconsider his June 30 order that called on the district to release documents it considers legally withholdable.

Got Dictionary?

So...who types up the agendas for Radnor Township meetings? They always have typos...

See this evening's humor for the July 21st, 2008 Board of Commissioners Agenda:

A G E N D A
Public Meeting Monday
Board of Commissioners July 21, 2008
Radnor Township 7:00 p.m.

P. Introduction of an ordinance re: amend traffic code to prohibit
parking on a portion of Popular Avenue

Errr? Got spellcheck? Got dictionary? Unless of course, they aren't referring to Poplar Avenue at all, but that new street next to Prom Queen Way and Homecoming Court(kidding, know of NO such street) .

Scathing Opinion of Radnor School District from Lehigh Valley

Woweee. The smoke is coming off this blog post about to be promoted from the Lehigh Valley! Radnor Township School District is really taking it on the chin over open records and accountability...not that they shouldn't be, mind you. They did this to themselves, and this blogger from the Lehigh Valley also includes that McMeekin person's e-mail address in their post:

Young Guns in Radnor?

What's an 18 yr Old Doing With a Gun In Radnor? Or, The Tale of The Dropped Gun at Camp at Valley Forge Military Academy?

So, was it GUN CAMP? A little teeny blip on NBC10, and a news story in the Inquirer and elsewhere. A Valley Forge Military Academy Camp Counselor shot himself in the foot apparently when he dropped a gun he was putting away?

Doesn't that ever bother North Wayne residents? That they have a campus with loads of firearms so close to residential? And why would a, 18 year old CAMP counselor need a gun?

Radnor in Delco Times....Well Worth A Read

7/18/08 UPDATE!!! So...is it true? Has Radnor Township School District Filed For Reconsideration as of July 17th? Will is spend MORE taxpayer monies now and post a bond at taxpayer expense to defend itself from a taxpayer who merely wanted to see how her taxpayer dollars were spent? Is radnor Township School District trying to tell ALL it's students that it doesn't believe in things like open records and open government? How does it feel about the U.S. Constitution? What kind of mindless brainwashing will it be piping through the busses if that other thing happens?

This article is very interesting and well worth a read....makes you wonder a LOT about about Radnor Twp School District. And about school board President John McMeekin II. What is the agenda here? Wasteful spending and secrets?

Busy, Busy Radnor.....Getting Like Lower Merion?

Check out the news to the west in Radnor...economy is int he crapper, yet developers and development persist? Amazing. Can citizens ever truly stop the madness or be a part of it so communities can manage what they are forced to accept? Should communities have to accept so much development? But with all these mushrooming plans, Radnor is beginning to sound a lot like Lower Merion, right? "More, more, more. How do you like it, how do you like it?" (Sorry Andrea True Connection or whomever did the 70's disco song)

In a nutshell, Judy Sherry sued Radnor Township School District on a right to know basis under Open Records Laws and the Judge in Delaware County found in HER favor on June 30th.

On Sidewalks and Development in Radnor Township...

Last evening's Board of Commissioners' meeting in Radnor was....errrr....shall we say spirited....but before we get to the porch and pâté set having a conniption over sidewalks in St. David's, there is an oddity to be wondered about - in Radnor, why don't they do commissioner roll call at the start of meetings? (And yes a commissioner was missing in action). It doesn't seem as if there is the Township Secretary component as there is in Lower Merion and why is that? Or was the Township Secretary that woman who sort of sat off to the side?

Meeting of the Radnor Community Preservation Coalition

On Tuesday night RCPC held a meeting at the Township Building. I believe there were about 60 folks in attendance. The meeting was mostly an update although there was also an update for some of the attendees who had not been at the previous meeting. Included was a brief history of RCPC and how it came to be.

Hey Radnor! Don't Water Down The Issue of Development at 236 N. Aberdeen in North Wayne

Undoubtedly there are some in Radnor who wish that the topic of 236 N. Aberdeen would just disappear....but it won't. IF 236 North Aberdeen is developed, it could negatively impact not only the immediate vicinity of North Aberdeen Avenue, but one cannot discount the potential impact on Willow Avenue across the creek, right? Willow Ave is the low side of the creek, right? Of course, will the homes most directly across the property boundaries/lines of 236 N. Aberdeen have the potential for most direct impact? Maybe someone should ask Radnor Township and FEMA?

*Oh* If you have an interest in this site not getting supersized, here is the information for contacting the commissioner over there:*

Harry G. Mahoney, Esq.
hgmahoney@dmvlawfirm.com
215-587-9400
President, Ward 1

(If you write the commissioner, you might want to let that reporter over at the Suburban who is covering this issue know your thoughts: sstrike@waynesuburban.com )

So...back to the regularly scheduled program in progress: This property was passed along like a loser prom date with a super wimpy rating by the Radnor Township Planning Department on May 5th, 2008. It was discussed in caucus by the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners at the May 12th meeting.

Save the Willows Cottage

Many of you have seen the Willows Cottage at the entrance to Willows Park. Several months ago there was an item on the BOC agenda concerning approval of demolition of the cottage. Fortunately several folks raised an objection and the Commissioners tabled the action, minutes of the meeting contain this:

The Saga of Little Chicago Continues

Well, here it is, another fine article from Sam Strike at the Suburban. Sam gets small neighborhood....and another person who "gets it"? Daylin Leach. Ironically, the Suburban this week also features an editorial by him regarding PA HB 904. Hopefully the developers for 236 N. Aberdeen Ave will just abandon this senseless plan. If they do not, can we predict that the sleeping giant that is this small neighborhood is fully awake? These folks seem to wish to preserve their 'hood and good for them!

The recalculation of floodplain lines key to subdivision

But in real life, it’s a subject of inch-high anecdotes and soggy stories of the worst kind of neighborly offense: problems that flow from multiple sources.

It's always nice to hear when the little people get a break, or in this case a temporary reprieve. And good for this North Wayne neighborhood! Keep it up! See what you can accomplish together? And those doubting Thomases who thought average Joes and Josephines have no rights? You do!

Time for sweet scent of lilacs and new development plans
By Carla J. Zambelli

Ahhh Spring! The landscape is lush with greenness and the air heavy with the scents of lilac and old fashioned viburnum. But what else does spring bring us as citizens up and down the Main Line? A full course of new and disturbing smaller development plans to peruse.

Yesterday and Today: Can a Piece of the Fabric of North Wayne History Be Saved From Demolition?

Speaking of Density....In North Wayne

Well, we have noticed that in addition to our coverage of 236 N. Aberdeen Avenue in North Wayne, The Radnor Community Preservation Coalition has taken an interest, and now we also have the reasonable thoughts from Round Radnor:

"Interesting item on Planning next week

3. S.D. # 2008-S-06 (Final) of David Buckley & Sherrie Burlingham
to subdivide property into two (2), raze existing dwelling and
construct a twin home with a residence on each lot at 236 N.
Aberdeen Ave.

If you have ever traveled on North Aberdeen you know how dense it is currently. What will this proposed project do to/for the neighborhood? Also, what will impact will this have on storm water in an already critical neighborhood."

Meltdown Lisa?

Is Lisa Paolino a politician in meltdown mode? A lot of people are wondering, given the childish and silly "press release" on her blob where she accuses other campaigns of "harassing" her. Seriously? Does that now mean that the judge who told her to stop the madness today in Delco, as well as the judge in Montco yesterday are also harassing her? She gets caught doing something bad, and this is her mature, professional retort...err,response?

We weren't going to replicate press releases even though several other websites are, but now maybe we will. Why? Because we have had enough.

Can we all mostly agree that Ms. Paolino is obviously intellegent enough to run a clean election based on issues, but she has chosen of her own volition to pursue tawdry campaign tactics including but not limited to the phoney ballots and questionasble carwash coupons? Ms. Paolino set the tone, with her actions, did she not? Should Ms. Paolino just leave this party now? Can it be said that the only victims of this process are the voters of the 17th Senate District? If this candidate is such a strong independent, female candidate, why all the breast beating and whining? Connie Williams never whined throughout her tenure in State House and Senate, and she got all the crap in the world thrown at her every single time. She didn't piss and moan that the boys were beating her up, she went on her way with grace and dignity, and won every election, didn't she?

But then again, is that the same pretzel logic that caused Doug to receive his love note? Is this First Amendment Rights for Dummies or something?

We couldn't make this stuff up even if we wanted to:

More Phony Election Ballots? Will This Have a Negative Effect on Radnor Township?

Last night Doug broke the news that Ms. Paolino got busted by Montgomery County folks (and a judge named Richard J. Hodgson, apparently)for the oldest slezoid election trick in the books and isn't astounding? What is it? Phony election ballots? Apparently so.

This morning there is an Inquirer story stating that this morning in Delaware County Courthouse there is an emergency hearing for the same thing at 11:30 a.m. Except in Delco, apparently the lilly was gilded further?

We know HaverfordBlog is watching closely since supposedly the Delco version of these fake ballots have apparently surfaced there in Havertown - we don't know about Radnor, does anyone out there? PA Watercooler shows a copy of the confiscated fake ballot....

Here is the scathing Inquirer article:

Posted on Sat, Apr. 19, 2008
Judge blocks a candidate's 'official' GOP sample ballot
By Derrick Nunnally
Inquirer Staff Writer

An acrimonious Republican Senate primary turned litigious yesterday with a fight over endorsement claims on mass-mailed sample ballots.

Pea-green "Official Republican Ballot" forms mailed by Pennsylvania Senate candidate Lisa Paolino list two choices in the 17th District Senate primary: Paolino and "not endorsed."

The ballots, which arrived in Montgomery County mailboxes yesterday, bore a substantial resemblance to the Montgomery County Republican Committee's pea-green "Official Republican Ballot" - which lists Lance Rogers as the endorsed candidate and Paolino not at all.

In the Norristown courthouse yesterday afternoon, Rogers and attorney Robert Kerns - who is unopposed in a May 8 election to lead the county Republican committee - persuaded Common Pleas Court Judge Richard J. Hodgson to block Paolino's campaign from mailing the sample ballots.
